They truly are a coalition of the bribed and coerced!

Last year, during the early stages of the Democratic primary, Senator Kerry told supporters that the more than 30 nations in the international operation to remove Saddam Hussein represented a "trumped-up, so-called coalition of the bribed, the coerced, the bought, and the extorted."

When we reflect back on this and take into account the massive spinoffs John Kerry's comments had on his campaign, election, our divided nation. Perhaps it's time for us to step up and admit that he was right!

I feel sorry for the loss of your tax money, but can't help but feel a little more sorry for the soldiers who died so that you could have the right to hand it over to the Neo-cons...

I empathise most with the families of dead British soldiers who were sent to fight a war that the majority of the British people opposed. And given that our tax money was also wasted by Blair and Bush on a conflict that we never asked for and wasn't in our interests, a little compensation won't go amiss.

hmm unless i misread the article only the countries that sent troops are getting paid. Poland for example is getting $100m for the 2,500 troops they sent. Thats $40k per head.. good deal if you ask me.

2500 troops = $100,000,000

That's a pretty good exchange rate for any country I would think, and for the U.S. taxpayer, the beat goes on.

Well if the coalition countries knew about the money before joining, then at least they are being honest for their reasons for joining. Not like the French, who give trumped up humanitarian reasons for not joining, when all along it was because they stood to lose their Oil For Food theft.

Give me a corrupt politician that speaks the truth over a two-faced scheming liar anyday. Then watch all these conspiracy theories melt away.

Hey, it's a trade-off. Poland takes US beef when no one else does - and now they're reporting their 12th case of Mad Cow in 12 months. Hmmm.

It's hard to believe this topic doesn't outrage all Americans, republican and democrat alike. Sure it's difficult for Bush supports to comment on yet more frivolous liberal war spending by our so called conservatives. Who knows, perhaps it's twice as difficult for die-hard Bush supporters to admit John Kerry's comments were a direct hit right on the bulls eye regarding this make-belief coalition. This collective stubbornness by our right is the reason why we're left with a nation completely divided!

Doesn't this bother every day fellow Americans? How can we sit back and let our Administration give financial million dollar pat-on-the-back hand outs, when our homeland clearly continues to suffer? Money that could have been spent "liberally" on medicare, homeless people, war veterans, small business etc. all vital concerns that could have used a boost yet Bush continues to give it all away.. Our tax paying dollars..

How does a conservative US citizen justify these liberal actions?

I don't see the difference between this and the rebuilding contracts that are awarded to countries that support us. To the victor goes the spoils, though in this case 'victor' is a loose term.

Why shouldn't we scratch each other's back? As for Kerry's remarks, he would have allowed the countries that were robbing the Iraqi people back in, in the name of his "Global Test".
