Hating Muslims, Loving Democracy in Iraq

Here is something I don't understand -

Many people seem to be happy that Saddam is gone.

They are quick to bash those who bash Bush or the War in Iraq.

They are, I assume, happy about the setting up of a free, democratic Iraq - and yet, in another thread they will say that Islam is a religion of hate and the only cure is the elimination of Muslims and/or their religion.

Except that, it's Muslims who live in Iraq.

So... I don't get it.

Can anyone help me?



edit: In other words - why do we assume that the Muslims in Iraq will end up with a government we approve of?
Let's be honest, we don't want an Iraq that has cute little elections every now and then, we want an Iraq that isn't run by a madman or a bunch of terrorists.

But if all of Islam is a religion of hate....

You are assuming that every Iraqi is a Muslim. Not true. The same logic would dictate that every American was a Catholic or Christian, which is far from the truth. Of course if you ask them they'll say that they are Muslims. In the recent past you could have been shot or worse for not making this claim. It will take some time for them to get used to the fact that they can be whatever they want to be.

Iraq has lots of different religions, if i am right 10% is christian, there are even Atheist there.

After the fall of saddam allot of muslims turned into christians because now they had the choice of freedom of religion.

I can see why, when the islam is showing his real ugly face you see a political party covered with religious stuff to cover up the blood, just like the nazi's did.

Sorry but I have to add, Iraq is now a Shiite Islamic ruled class and they leader Ayatollah Al-Sistani he is Iranian pulls the strings.i

How is that possible? very simple Shiites are majority in Iran and the leader of the Shiites is Al-Sistani.

The people of the middle east has a set of believe and rule for living nobody can erase that from them.

Iraqi majority Shiites voted now there will be a theocracy, meaning Islam rule.

Saddam was a dictator and whatever he was he has the theocracy in Iraq confined, it was more freedom for christians that is going to be now.

Yes we did them a favor taking him at out power, but we also allowed with that the rebuild of theocracy.

Now The great Ayatollah already said that Iraq will be Islam, now what kind of theocracy they will have?

Theocratic Democracy? or a more Radical one? To me it will be the same type of government as in Iran.

It is nothing US can do about it now, they voted and they choose, now is up to them to see how or which way will go.

Iraq will never be Christian even Sunnis are for theocracy.

The more liberated Kurds, want their own borders.

I agree with Marg and I also believe the Secretary of state Rice would echo the same thing howbeit without saying we won't have a hand in a 'democratic' government. Bottomline the Iraqi's will eventually be as wealthy as the Saudi's - they have too much oil that we and China are going to buy. The Bush administration knows that you cannot erase a thousand years of culture just not going to happen, and I'm sure he has had many doctorates tell him as much before we invaded. It's also clear that we will always attempt to rule somehow in Iraq to insure oil production is solely controlled by subsidized Iraqi corporations. Any interference with production will always garner a national security interest for the U.S. - this will never change as long as we remain a nation we now broker Iraq oil until those reserves run dry or we stand nothing to gain from them any longer.
