Considering my generation is the generation that's been at war longer than any generation in American history and the fact that we seem to be ramping up for more empire expansion and war I find it appropriate to share some of the horrors our choices cause those who are brave enough to sign on the dotted line.

Henry Lumley

Henry Lumley, poor guy. Toughest bastard in history, while him and his plane were on fire he was able to land his plane and escape alive.

U.S. Army veteran Jerral Hancock drove over an IED in Iraq in 2007. Just 21, he lost his arm and the use of both legs, and now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder. But his injuries have changed more than just his own life. His mother and stepfather take care of him full time, and his two children, 9 and 6, struggle with their new life.

On Easter Sunday, US army specialist Brendan Marrocco lost all four limbs in combat in Iraq. Glenn Osten Anderson visits Marrocco at Walter Reed Army Medical Centre as he recovers from his injuries and learns to use his prosthetic arms and legs

Just thought I would share while you're thinking about how oppressed you are the government or when you're taking a knee during the national anthem and essentially spitting in the face of these people.

Most of these guys were just looking to do something more with their lives or for an opportunity to get money for college or something along those lines.

Keep these videos and these stories in the back of your mind when your at the voting booth. Remember your choices matter.

War is pure socialism and a complete waste of money.

If everyone chooses to stop fighting the elite will lose their power and there will be no more war.

We have the power to choose.

i was with you right up until here. war is a horror and we take advantage of our bravest citizens with pointless wars. but one has nothing to do with the other. you're undercutting the whole point of your thread, which seems to be 'vote for people who don't get us sucked into wars', no?

Thats right, drag the victims of war (soldiers are victims too) in front of everyone, play the guilt card so we puff up with pride and anger at the enemy that did this. That enemy is not the people whose countries we invaded or the soldiers, but the people that run this country into the ground by coercing everyone to fight with slogans, flags and Nationalism, for their gain.

I know, huh? What if they gave a war and nobody showed up to fight?

I'm just watching Starship Troopers. Reminds me of the current situation, somehow

Generalizations are rarely correct. There is usually a defined reason for each move that brings us to armed conflict. The truth is, War is what happens when diplomacy fails.
See another generalization, but unfortunately, this one may be true.

While this cycle has certainly been the longest "war", its still pretty small in scale and contained. By historical context the last 16 years is a drop in the bucket - but the powers that be always look for chances for expansion.

I think is the desired "business model" for war fighting that we currently have now. I say business model because thats essentially what it is. Pretty much every war I can think of has been senseless, pointless destruction that happened for the sake of itself. War is hell was not meant to be a metaphor in any sense, but literally.

At it's most extreme possible conditions (Say eastern front of world war 2) excluding possibility of nuclear war - its the most horrible, senseless, utterly insane situation people can possibly be in. It actually could be considered worse than nuclear war on an individual level of misery and suffering anyway. At least with super weapons it would be over very quickly and the people killed initially at least would have no idea what hit them or even have any warning/chance to be afraid.

It's just politics, money and resources. That's it - and those who wage these wars, reap all of the benefits while taking 0% risk are the politicians, bankers and world leaders while the actual soldiers on the ground take 100% of the risk, get nothing in return. Your best possible reward is surviving unharmed and going home. That's your prize - with a side order of mental health problems for likely your entire life.

I applaud you on this thread though - its been a personal crusade of mine since leaving the military to kind of do the same sort of thing to people. I have young children, my stomach turns when they even play with toy water guns. I used to be as brainwashed and march lock step as anyone else. Couldn't wait to start my career in the military when I was 17.

Can't help but think how the situation would be different had the media, entertainment industries and politicians treated warfare as it is in reality rather than create these bombastic, entertaining "moral" stories about war like even though it's awful its still something that has to happen.

No, it isn't. Very, very rarely is that the case. It's too bad when after the first world war, everyone returned having their illusions of glory and achievement shattered to carry the unofficial slogan "never again" nobody seemed to care to listen for very long.

The really disgusting part of our current situation is its only the ground soldiers (and a small percentage of them) that suffer the consequences while the homefront and even most involved in the military enjoy comfortable lives and you couldn't tell one way or another there was even anything happening. That's why it's the ideal business model - they can literally keep this up forever, and exchanged the short term big windfall of $$$ producing equipment and weapons for millions of troops and double dipping with more $$$ in massive rebuilding efforts for a longer term, sustainable model of smaller scale warfighting, that just goes on forever.

'The war is not meant to be won, it is meant to be continuous.'
