ATS Chat ... Lest it be forgotten!!

I know I know... SO et al were not fans of chat.. and I know.. the service they used were inept. But I find it difficult to grasp with the amount of membership base that not only utilized, but enjoyed that particular platform, that an alternative has yet to come to fruition.

The 'real-time' aspect of discussion on various topics (not to mention when ATS Live was a thing) was (for me) one of the mainstays that set this site apart from any other.

Not to mention, the relationships that I made within said chat that I am no longer able to maintain, is what made this site "100" (as the kids say these days).

Why, pray tell... in the days of FB Live e.g. ...have we not implemented chat back into the fray of ATS?

There are enough cookie cutter PHP scripts these days that could be implemented with minimal effort...

SO... Springer... Simon... can we ressurect Chat please?

There are apps we could use as a last resort, I'm not familiar with any in particular but maybe another user has one to recommend.

I remember chat, all its several incantations.

It sucked.

Cliques formed, no amount of moderation could improve the gang stomping and mental gyrations.

Yep... That's why it was removed. It's the reason we can't have nice things...

There was lot of abuse(read T&C infractions) in chat. Too time consuming to regulate. That said I rarely used it.

It was removed because the provider was a pathetic joke. SO paid multiple months, and they cut the service off for non-payment the next month. He couldn't get support for days at a time, they wouldn't do recurring billing, etc.

Chat had issues but no more than the rest of the boards. It just was harder to moderate because of the real time aspect.

I am not sure,but I think problems on chat caused some members to
get banned.You get into a heated battle on chat and forget the same
T&C rules apply there as well.It would be nice to have the feature back
I just wonder if it is really worth it?

I don't think so for the reasons you mention.

I think it is best to forget trying to bring it back.When I would
notice that someone had gotten banned.I looked all over their
posts and I didn't find anything that I thought would cause that.
My guess then was something on chat got them.

The problem is that you can't tell by posts what got someone banned. There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes that isn't evident from their posts.

I knew there was a reason I don't chat.. Gave it up with MySpace awhile ago!
