Joining in 1960, Kristofferson became a helicopter pilot after completing Ranger School and eventually worked his way to the rank of Captain. During this time he continued to work on music and even formed his own band while stationed in Germany. Kristofferson was offered a teaching position in Literature at West Point, but he turned it down to focus on music. By the time his military service was done, his family disowned him for leaving the Army, and he had gone through a bitter divorce.

He is quite an enigma.

I thought this was an intersting interview. He describes a religious experience that inspired "Why Me". Knowing what kind of person he claimed he was, and how he appeared, this was something I didn't expect, but thought it was noteworthy.

I bet he'd be fun to party with alongside Willy.

Hollywood is filled with wannabe tough guys. I bust a gut at Tom Cruise's tough guy rolls. Then there's real tough guys like Kris. Gene Hackman too. He's a Marine.

Hackman's story to Letterman on why he joined the Marines is one of my all-time favorites.

Not posting it because it's NSFW, but it's on YouTube.

One of those men who always seemed so eloquent and gracious. IMO, he aged handsomely and I loved the twinkle in his eyes.

I was introduced to Kristofferson may years ago and never really let him go. Not only has he got an interesting life story, he is a good musician and poet. Some music resonates through one's life. How many "stars" of today will still be making music when they are old farts?

You forgot that he's a really bad actor & his singing could use some help.....But let him show up at my house my wife would craw over me to get to him......go figure. I sing so much better.
