Japan plans for possible mass evacuation of its citizens in South Korea amid threats from North Kore

Around 60,000 Japanese citizens currently reside in South Korea, the news outlet reported. About 38,000 are long-term residents, while roughly 19,000 are tourists or short-term visitors.



"If the U.S. decided on a military strike against the North, the Japanese government would start moving toward an evacuation on its own accord regardless of whether the American plans are public," a Japanese government source told the Nikkei Review.

Japan's proposed plan is comprised of four steps: seek to limit unessential travel to South Korea, discourage all travel to the South, advise Japanese citizens to evacuate and encourage them to shelter in place.

Japan will start evacuating whether a strike is public knowledge or not according to their statement. This is unprecedented, war is on the horizon.

The South is reporting the North is readying an ICBM for launch.

So now if Kim sees Japan mass evacuate from the South, he knows we are going to attack.

I'd give 2 weeks and things are gonna get hairy,for a few countries. The matter is out of sane peoples hands.

Well, they didnt say they were evacuating...yet. Seems to just be saying they would plan on evacuating if they thought # was about to hit the fan.

Were South Korea to start evacuation in earnest, mass evacuation, Kim would soil himself. And the problem would then be solved of the major loss of life to South Koreans. You know where this is going... We would be free to take out Kim and his nuclear facilities. Water, power and roads/bridges and ports could be laid waste.

Add to this, a possible evacuation of Guam maybe. And, if Darwin Australia is under the umbrella maybe have all go south to the "Brisbane Line" again. Charge NK with the reparations because the threat they are projecting is real so says KIM.

Can I point out that no one has suggested an evacuation on the part of South Korean citizens, only Japanese citizens who happen to BE in South Korea at the moment. Although it is doubtless that some South Korean citizens may seek to get the hell out of dodge, should they hear rumblings at the DMZ or elsewhere, no mass exodus of actual South Korean citizens is being suggested, implied, or anything else, at this stage.

This is no different to the advisories that were issued to certain types of contractor during the beginning of the War on Terror, nor any different to the advisories that were issued to certain types of aid worker during the run up to the invasion of Afghanistan.

This is just forward warning that the Japanese government is prepared to recall all its citizens, and is advising all citizens considering a trip to South Korea to postpone or put off their visit until such time as the political situation de-escalates.

Precisely, every country does this to PREVENT a mass evaluation.

Go to the US travel advisory page and you'll find a lonnggg list.

They discourage so that state departments aren't forced to have logistical nightmares.

It's coming down to war. Only the most naive would think otherwise. One morning we will wake up to war raging on NK, or perhaps it will happen in the morning or mid day. Never the less if the South Koreans wish to survive, they need to evacuate. no mystery here.

This is the scary part. It really seems like the decision to go to war has been made, and the only question is when exactly the war will start, and what will be the official "trigger" event.

It pretty much happens with Kim launching a missile in the wrong place. Harvey's aftermath has us busy, and Irene could be a second blow.

It's really just a morale measure. In an actual conflict few Japanese would make it out of South Korea. Moreover even if they did Japan is still in striking distance of North Korea's WMD arsenal. It wouldn't matter much basically.
