NEWS: Kansas Offering Families Free Land

Kansas is attempting to revitalize...rather vitalize it's rural areas by offering completely free land to families. 6 communities are doing this to increase their economies. Some of the sites offer additional benefits as well.



This is pretty wild. I just heard about it listening to K-Love, it's one of their top news stories. Hopefully this will work. It just got national attention.

As for the clauses involved, I checked out the deal for Atwood and they want you to contact the Rawlins County Economic Director. The question is, who will this appeal to, and will they be a benefit or hinderance to the local economy?

Grady - Kansas gets its water from the Ogallala/Great Plains aquifer, an ancient underground lake that feeds states from Texas to Wyoming. Between irrigation and industrial use, the aquifer has been sucked almost dry. The water that's left is badly contaminated.

Hey I read on anther thread that some Americans are quite against giving free land to citizens when is governments on another country, they called "Socialism"

I called governments that care for their people.

Now we have Kansas offering families free land, so here in the US we have a democracy or a republic, I kind of get confused about that sometimes

So those that opposed the giving of free land to citizens I will like to know how do you call it. "Give away"

Marg, can I see which socialist or communist country is giving away land to people? as in they are the sole owners and they can do whatever they want with the land. i am interested to see what is it that you are talking about. I would also like to see who is against governments giving free lands to people.

The IMPORTANT POINT here is:

This land is located in what is still called "America's Breadbasket." It's where our nation's food comes from - grain, milk, beef, and other meat.

The land is being given away because America's Breadbasket is going DRY - running out of water. It is no longer valuable land - it is now worthless.

This is a problem. ...Where will we get our food?

Funny soficrow no wonder is been given away for free. I guess we have to depend more and more from our fresh products coming from south american now.

...But seriously, we really need to look at the water issue here. The USA's fresh water supply is in big trouble - and the breadbasket is about to dry up. ..."Homesteading opportunities" in Kansas is just the first symptom.

Personally I have alot of tornado fear, and feel lucky to live in an area where such a thing is rare indeed. I think my fear comes from so many 'Wizard of OZZ' reruns as a child, topped off with a few visits to Oklahoma City during such weather Free land GOOD! TORNADOS BAD!

Like, it doesn't really matter that our breadbasket is going dry - it's gonna be blown away anyway...?

I'm tempted to get some free land, and practice seeding clouds. The trick is you don't try to make rain in the summertime, you just make a whole lot of snow during the winter. This replenishes the groundwater just like rain.

Interesting find though, free land always makes my ears perk up. I found a flooded underground military installation for sale once, only 33,000 bucks for 220,000 square feet or something ridiculously huge. It was in the middle of the country if I remember correctly, the victim of military infrastructure cuts.
