Well, apart from taking a piece off his finger the thing ran around in circles then up and over him before taking to the nearest tree.

Thats the thing with possums and lizards , they like to go high so you go low .

With the recent invasion of the armadillo (thanks Texas... not!), we seem to have a contest going on here. It appears the possums are trying to teach the armadillos how to cross the road. It looks like it anyway; the possums typically get close to halfway across before pancaking, while the armadillos can barely make it off the grass onto the blacktop.

We also have a running joke:
"Why did the chicken cross the road?"
"To show the possum it could be done."

Possum meat is kinda tough and stringy, btw. Decent in a stew, not so much any other way. Old timers around here only ate it because it was free and plentiful.

To the OP, awesome thread, sweet trap, great ingenuity! Kudos!

North American opossum also eats about 4000 ticks a week....beneficial little nasties..

They also will eat my chickens and ducks... who also eat ticks like mad and turn them into eggs.

Any possum around here is a target.

Opossums are good to have around. They eat rats and other annoying creatures. I don't keep chickens or ducks so, not worried about that. They like berry bushes too.

I don't think I could kill all the possums around here if I had to. There's just too many of them. As long as they stay out of the yard, I'm not going to go looking for them.

Ever since we got a Tom Turkey, they seem to understand that...

I grabbed a possum by the scruff of its neck in Tasmania, I thought it would just hand there like a cat, little bugger flipped around and bit through skin between my thumb and finger.

My immediate reaction was to drop kick it straight into the plastic patio furniture which went flying like skittles!

Keep away from wildlife.
