So after catching a report on RT news. I did a quick Google search and look what the guardians saying.

www.theguardian.com...

There's now someone advocating taking down nelsons column. I didn't think the madness would spread over here but it looks like it is.

I think the centre globally will have to stand up to these idiots sooner rather than later.

This article shows no respect to one of Britain's greatest heroes, who died in the course of duty for this country and its freedoms.

Stupid fecking people. (see reason below in topic)

change your thread title then, one person writing an opinion piece does not equate to they no matter how terrible your comprehension of the english language.

and that's all it is, an opinion piece to get easy hits from the far right, lap it up, you bring it upon yourself.

It's a silly op-ed column on the editorial page that got laughed at. A lot. Total false equivalency. Yes, Nelson knew slave-owning people in the West Indies. I was not aware that he fought in a secessionist movement against his own country to defend slavery. Oh wait, he didn't. The author of the op-ed is an idiot.

Never gonna happen.

Let the Guardian write its stupid opinion pieces at the detriment of their "actual reporting"

Im leaving it as it is. Obviously you didn't take time to read the article properly or the comments at the bottom of it.
There's more than one person in favour of removing nelsons column if you read the comments properly.
As far as not being able to comprehend the English language, not sure where that's come from. Other than it being an insult for no reason.
Also I am not on the right of the political spectrum, I sit in the middle.

I suggest you read the article and comments properly before responding next time.

Thanks for participating.

I am not defending the OP, frankly I think it is stupid. But, if one other person agrees with that action (taking down Nelson's Column) then wouldn't that validate the use of the word "they"? Mincing words is not the nest defense on this one IMO. A better approach would be to invalidate the claim, don't you think?

Stupid fecking lefties.

No need for that.
Stupid people are stupid regardless of politics.

People advocate for many ridiculous causes doesn't mean they'll ever happen.

Germany 1945:
It's spreading, now they want Hitler statues and Nazi-Swastikas down...

Uuuh, that will destroy history!

But it didn´t, everybody nowadays knows what Nazi-Germany did to the world, but we germans don´t have to see the symbols of that sick time anymore, everywhere and everyday. Or even to praise them.

And it got replaced by this:

Should we take that monument down because it's a symbol of Stalin's atrocities against innocent German girls and women?

There is no equivalency between Lord Nelson and bloody Hitler. None.

What a stupid argument. The idiots can go off and top themselves for all I care, but they can leave Nelson alone.

It was the allies who enforced the destruction of nazi monuments. I think it was called article 30 in 1946.

The belief was that it would avoid any single place becoming a shrine to Hitler, or the nazi's. I think most people have forgot that the majority of the German people were 'brainwashed' by Hitler and the nazi's. It was a real worry at the time that small pockets of resistance would crop up again.

So it was an exterior force that removed them not an internal force.

They haven't removed everything bad there either monuments have remained that show just how evil the nazis were.

The UK has had all sorts of racial tensions in the past. This led to Equal Opportunities Acts, Commissioners, diversity and human rights councillors and advisers. Now after all these decades, they suddenly want to get rid of these statues. They weren't a problem until now.

Nelson defended the UK from invasion.

That's hardly new. A few decades back there was a similar monument to him in Dublin. That didn't fare well, either.
