It was a unique decade for music. Many new genres and sub-genres were created while others faded away.
Post songs that you like or just let us know of your favorite artists from this era.

I'll start this thread with a couple of songs from the Alternative/New Wave scene in the UK.

Pale Shelter - Tears For Fears

In Our Angelhood - Cocteau Twins

Barking up my tree with this thread:

I could go on and on but I'll leave a few songs for others. Cheers.

The Church - Under the Milky Way

Frida - I know There's Something Going On

Just a couple songs I like from the era. There is such a broad, experimental feel to 80s music. Punks liked New Order, everybody listened to the Cure and the Cult. David Bowie pumped out his biggest hit ever featuring blues (!!) of all things on a dance record. The Go-Gos, The Cars, The Police, The Stray Cats, The The (all the good bands of the 80's were "the" somethings - Jimmy Rabbitte-ish).

[He types whilst listening to Camper van Beethoven's Eyes of Fatima.]

The era of Great Australian Rock!

One of Aussies most iconic song for veterans.

I could not leave out Paul Kelly one of the best lyricists ever and not as well known over seas.

Cant resist - 80s was my era. So how about Torch by Soft Cell. This is so cool as Marc almond sings with to the backing of the Leeds College of Music. He is from Leeds so this may be his old school.
And you can't have an 80s list without the Smiths. Only he recognised thePANIC in the streets of London (and other places):

Embed 4 U! (This one deserves it)

Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill

Great song! David Gilmour on guitar... kind of a cool collaboration. Like Frida has Phil Collins on drums on that song I posted earlier. There were some other great cross-over things like Belew with Talking Head and Brian Eno with U2. A strange experimental time!

David Gilmour discovered Kaye Bush when she was a teenager.

He helped produce her first demo I believe.

From the start, 1980, I bring you Ozzy Osbourne in his first comeback gift to the world..........

Blizzard of Ozz

Followed up a year later, in 1981 with a smash........

Diary of a Madman

Even after the untimely and tragic death of the great Randy Rhodes, the Ozzman took the early 80's by storm, and in the process created a new branch of the Heavy Metal tree, spawning numerous copycat band sounds.
