Well seems ancient humans had sex with a "ghost species" or proto human (early hominin).

New research shows that ancient humans had sex with non human species.

According to a study conducted by Omer Gokcumen, an assistant professor of biological sciences at the University of Buffalo, ancient humans had intercourse with a "ghost species" of "proto human".

Gokcumen explains that humans are only one member of a broader species named "hominins".

The research found that humans had sex with other members of the hominins group.

DNA points to 150,000 years ago when humans were breeding with the "ghost species". The only reason they call the species ghost species is because there has been no fossils found. This interbreeding between different early hominin species is the norm, not the exception. So it sounds like it was not uncommon for different early hominins to breed with each other.

Gokcumen found "wildly different" genes in DNA of humans living in Sub-Saharan Africa. He believes these genes can be traced back to about 150,000 years ago when ancient humans were breading with this mysterious "ghost species".

This other species is referred to by the scientific community as a "ghost species" as there are no known fossils that can be analysed.

Better than one's hand, I suppose.

I live in Kentucky...you don't want to know what humans have sex with now.

Are you surprised?

Modern day man would have sex with a refrigerator if it had the appropriate hole- they didn't even have societal standards.

So much nonsense in both of these threads especially the one in the aliens forum.

Introgression of AMH's into african archaics has been documented in the past. This new study identifies a protein in saliva that represents that introgression.
The most important aspect of this paper is that it lends support to the idea that african gentic diversity is the product of AMH breeding with african archaics, which is exctly what this paper states.
As I read it, the mutation to the saliva protien is only found in sub saharan africans, which lends creadence to the notion that modern humans developed outside of africa, then migrated back to cross breed with archaics.

This is a problem of language.

We should have defined "species" as all creatures that can interbreed with one another.

Then, things would be simple. That is, in fact, the idea invoked by "species".

But, somewhere along the line language got confused.

So, now, can anybody tell me

"What is the barrier between species, that define some subset of creatures a species?"

I didn't entirely understand the ghost species or proto human. I imagine it was different human/pre-human'ish shenanigans going on.

Conjecture, but all they got is DNA from 150,000 years ago.

Would that be considered beastiality? They weren't human, right?
