Talking to locals who were there then is probably the best way. So, basically, unless you are close, hiring someone to do that.

check the county tax records, a lot of states have them online and free to access, since they are public records.
the tax records provide info like, the owners name, everytime the property was sold and to whom it was sold, how much was paid for the property,the owners address,tax appraisal amount,tax exempt status, property zoning code, business residential etc....
