The US Saber Guardian at the Black Sea 2017

Another training "at the frontline". This time a bit biggie.

This exercise is an annual multinational exercise conducted since 2013 that rotates among Romania, Bulgaria and Ukraine.

Yeah, why not chose some Italian military beach instead, guess its going to be less burdening to skip that 1200 mile convoy of your vechicles to bring them at the black sea...

Exercise Saber Guardian 17 is a U.S. European Command, U.S. Army Europe-led annual exercise taking place in Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria in the summer of 2017. This exercise involves more than 25,000 service members from over 20 ally and partner nations. The largest of the Black Sea Region exercises, Saber Guardian 17 is a premier training event for U.S. Army Europe and participating nations that will build readiness and improve interoperability under a unified command, executing a full range of military missions to support the security and stability of the Black Sea Region. It is deterrence in action. Some of the more notable aspects of SG17 include: the massing of 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division (3/4ID) from several locations across the Operation Atlantic Resolve area of operation to the exercise joint operations area (JOA) in Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria; and the movement of 2nd Cavalry Regiment (2CR) from Vilseck, Germany, to numerous locations throughout the JOAwww.eur.army.mil...

Another move, executed with the idea to be used as a "excuse" to keep 25,000 highly trained military personel, battle ready, on the frontline in the season for warfare(training and real).

There are large scale training exercises all the time by militaries all of the world in different theaters.....



Why exactly are you worked up about this?

As I pointed above, it is taking place at very tactical location. Considering the relations NATO/Russia of course.

Most of them do take place in "tactical" areas though, what's the point of conducting maneuvers in areas not conducive to your theater?

These exercises happen all over the world all the time.
We just got done an exercise called Sabre Strike in Latvia that happens every year. Also they are scheduled years in advance.

There is back-thoughts in doing so. I am bringing the issue, maybe someone will have something to add which will expand our view at what's happening.

This isn't the third century. Any season is "the season for warfare."

Hence why training is conducted in all seasons, in all climates, all over the world, by pretty much any military force on the planet.

Right, "nothing to see here". They always call a prelude to war "training, exercise, drilling", etc, blah, blah. The real thing to consider is that shipping all those ground forces by sea to the Baltic states in the Black Sea is a lot cheaper than trying to get them there over land from western Europe.

A lot sneakier too.

"Don't worry this is just an exercise, we're only drilling and training , just in case".

In Eastern Europe they called the columns of military vehicles heading east towards Russia a "Parade", remember?
