Nobody wants to get the leftovers and in age where technology rules the day, one can feel safe and independent only with sufficient supplies of energy to maintain his technology fetishes.

Nobody wants to serve the others, and for the sake of his own freedom he would enter the domain of his neighbor and claim his energy fortunes, before he gets the same surprise at some cloudy Saturday.

America acts sly, but it acts smart in a long run. Russia pretends to be on the edge of hostility, and this is clever, because a moment of weakening and the neighbors will steal your soul.
Middle east is acting recklessly, but what else to do when everybody wants your goods. Western Europe tries to ally with the better team, they know they are out of real fortunes or military potential and thus they need to rely on diplomacy and friendships. South Africa, South America, Australia, Japan, Eastern Europe have been in one it other way subdued, either by corruption or by dominative shows and economical/military threats. They only wish for the day they could be playing in the game of independence as main characters like US or Russia.

And this way the 21st century went and passed. And the 22nd came, and the game was the same, "A war on independence".

Humans obviously enjoyed it. Dogs supported their masters, cats as always were indifferent, the pigs were feeling safe and fat, yet down in the sewers, the stinky rats were playing cards and screwing in their crincly tongue the brainless foolish human kin, and his greed for bread and wine...

At the rate things are going, humanity will be "fortunate" to see the "22nd century." I would be surprised if our species exists beyond 2100...

It's been like this for thousands of years. We are just more 'aware' of it because of the information age.
Either humanity cuts the crap or we just go into total war and duke it out and realize we're idiots.
But this won't be like post WW2 when all of humanity drove towards common goals to rebuild, it'll be survival.

I am an optimistic believer in space exploration, and it can easily steer us away from war, well at least the superpowers.
