E.F. Borra, E. Trottier wrote a great paper last year on the Discovery of peculiar periodic spectral modulations in a small fraction of solar type stars. Great paper
that got me thinking. If I were an "intelligent" Being or race" I would certainly have by now worked out how to communicate using light.
Ever hear of a Plessey Code? It 1D linear barcode symbology based on pulse width modulation that can be easily encoded into light .. Your not alone, there is a message a "hello" of sorts encoded in Light you just got to work out how to decode it ... Any Ideas?

you read the paper?

there's 0 analysis brought forward except

They cannot be generated by molecules or rapid pulsations. It is highly unlikely that they come from the Fourier transform of spectral lines because too many strong lines located at nearly periodic frequencies are needed. Finally we consider the possibility, predicted in a previous published paper, that the signals are caused by light pulses generated by Extraterrestrial Intelligence to makes us aware of their existence

they're probably not x or y or z, but it's definitely aliens.

aliens so advanced that they use stars to communicate but not advanced enough to realize not all aliens may respond to 'light communication' like they can....

because all life forms have the same physiology and take in information the same way, via numskulls.

even here on Earth, in the deepest oceans, there are strange creatures living in places we think would be impossible nor do they need eyes to let light in or need sonar to navigate...

an advanced civilization would probably know what scientists on Earth Know or realize.

then this gem:

However, at this stage, this hypothesis needs to be confirmed with further work. Although unlikely, there is also a possibility that the signals are due to highly peculiar chemical compositions in a small fraction of galactic halo stars.

no wonder scientific papers can't be trusted anymore, they're all sensational or agenda-driven.

a reply to: DpatC You sound like an intelligent being. Why haven't you worked it out already?

Why would you assume they're attempting to communicate with other 'aliens' at all?
