The Mysterious Underworld of Teotihuacan

A secret underworld of labyrinthine caves and tunnels extends under the ancient city of Teotihuacan and its massive pyramids.
Although the existence of these tunnels has been known for over a century, exploration has been extremely problematic due to frequent cave-ins, flooding and both natural and artificial obstructions.
In February 2017, our expedition has been able to document for the first time on video an extensive section of the upper tunnel system from an entrance located less than 200 meters from the base of the Pyramid of the Sun.

A number of interesting findings have resulted from this first expedition:

• The tunnels are obviously man-made and not natural lava tubes. This has been been confirmed through surveys conducted by the Mexican Institute of Anthropology (INAH) as recently as the early 2010's
  
• The tunnel system extends on different levels, connected by sloping or vertical shafts
  
• Early reports from the late 1800's describe vast pillared halls and domed chambers, connected by tunnels rumored to be as much as 40 miles long
  
• The relatively crude nature of the most immediately accessible portions of the tunnel network, dug through the loose volcanic material deposited by ancient eruptions over the Valley of Mexico, suggests that the chambers and tunnels described by early explorers must be located at a much greater depth and be carved from the more solid bedrock
  
• Traces of red-colored paint and burn marks inside the tunnels point to an intense ritual activity (as also confirmed by a number of later burials), perhaps associated with mythical conceptions of the underworld
  

At the same time, many questions remain unanswered:

• What was the purpose of these labyrinthine tunnels?
  
• Is there any connection between the tunnel system and the three main pyramids at Teotihuacan?
  
• Were the pyramids themselves built with prior knowledge of the existence of vast tunnels and underground chambers under the present-day floor of the Valley of Mexico?
  
• And finally - is it possible that these caves and tunnels under Teotihuacan - the traditional Aztec place of creation - are somehow connected with Aztec legends of Chicomoztoc, "the place of seven caves", from which their ancestors were said to have emerged after a great Flood?
  

Fascinating - yet more man-made tunnel systems across the world. There are those cities in Turkey, the Hopi Indians also have their legends about spending time underground with the ant people. Did these build these tunnels to communicate with the dead, store food and water, or just avoid extreme weather.

Derinkuyu turkish tunnels could house 20000 people with amazing ventilation and doors there is a pattern here .its been removed from history only time you would expand that sort of energy to hide from cold/radiation is the ice age 10000 years before we were were supposdly clever enough to bash rocks with copper tools

Derikuyu was massive compared to them and thats the tunnels we now about.maybe the tunnels protected the last of us thousands of years ago .radiation /iceage= lot of planetary harm.maybe the best of us emerged

That's a cave. I don't see any reason to believe it is man made?

I dont see anything superspecial about these caves..these seem to be natural and altered by men..
look like connecting/ emergency / storage / channels to me..

btw this site also posts those Edgar Cayce based ' Hall of Records' myths..well...
