Since Democrats under Carter created the department of education, the US education system has gone from one of the best in the world to one of the worst among developed countries. Issues like education and healthcare are best left to the states. The Tenth Amendment says issues not necessary to be handled by the federal government are to be left to the states. The founding fathers placed great importance to make issues local to the states, free from overreach by the federal government. And this I agree. Different states have different needs, different requirements. Issues are best left to the states instead of run by the federal government.

I agree with this, unless our healthcare system becomes socialized medicine, the government should just stay out of it. They can regulate the insurance companies a bit, like it was twenty years ago, but we are now going into the wrong direction with this.

I prefer socialized healthcare like in Canada and parts of Europe, regulated by an agency to make sure the prices and necessity of services are reasonable.

Medicare works fine, and when people have to pay something out of pocket for services, it helps keep the unnecessary trips to the doctor from happening.

Right.....

A businessman in the WH, surrounding himself with other businessmen...

Health care will remain a business for profit and a corrupt government scamming the taxpayers for every dime they can.

Expect healthcare cost to go up not down. It's capitalism and you reap what you sow.

The insurance CEOs just voted themselves a sweet little raise and stock option deal.....believe me!

Tax breaks for the wealthy and Trumps neo trickle down economic package should be great! It's always worked in the past....lol

The 'price' of private services is money. The price for Gov't services is freedom and liberty.

When freedom and liberty are lost, well, they are lost. Whereas, there's always an opportunity to make money.

Is that simple enough for the socialists to understand??

Ban insurance.
It's a scam.

Then, allow the free market to sort out health Care on it's own.

Just imagine a world where the many aren't denied basic health Care so that the few can have it for free...

What a load of hogwash.

Healthcare profiteering reached it's peak under a "community organizer" president.

Obamacare benefitted insurance companies, drug companies and hospital administrators way more than patients.

Programs like Charter Schools are what is destroying public education. Public school funding gets funneled to corporations that throw a up a crappy but nice looking building, staff it and supply it well for a few years and then abandon it and let it fall apart.

Well put.
This really isn't a left vs right issue it's a libertarian vs authoritarian issue. The idea that an entity of people who are largely disconnected from the average American can effectively manage things like the education and healthcare of the average American on a national level is preposterous. Then only to turn around and use entirely different systems of education and healthcare than the majority to top it off. America was fostered and nurtured as not to have a ruling class. Where everyone even a racist, hillbilly, coal miner(sarc) has a voice.
Our first president has a hemp farmer how distilled grain alcohol in his cellar to avoid the taxes.

The state is now worshiped as a god by these authoritarians. Who turned away from religion or spirituality but were incapable of going through life without having something to guide them. So they latched onto the state and government for comfort. It is no coincidence the majority of atheists are on the authoritarian left. Likewise it is no coincidence the majority of evangelicals are on the authoritarian right. While the rest of us just watch in amazement as they go ape **** with what's left of our freedoms and rights.

It's about time we start cloning humans...

“The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”
– Thomas Jefferson

“When a government betrays the people by amassing too much power and becoming tyrannical, the people have no choice but to exercise the original rights of self defense – to fight the government.”
– Alexander Hamilton

“The ultimate authority resides in the people, and that if the federal government got too powerful and overstepped its authority, then the people would develop plans of resistance and resort to arms.”
– James Madison

“The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.”
– Thomas Jefferson

“This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing Government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it or their revolutionary right to dismember or overthrow it.”
– Abraham Lincoln

“We, the people are rightful masters of both Congress and the courts – not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution.”
– Abraham Lincoln

“We need a revolution every 200 years, because all governments become stale and corrupt after 200 years.”
– Ben Franklin

“What country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms.”
– Thomas Jefferson

Utter drivel. Having raised my daughter in L.A., now in her thirties, I can personally attest that 'charter schools' weren't responsible for metal detectors being required to marginally increase her safety in the school system- over 15 years ago, no less.

Charter schools weren't responsible for the uneducated louts 'graduating' from this 'system'.

Charter schools, home schooling all the private schools provide alternative education. That's called freedom. Choice.

Common core is a complete joke, without any merit whatsoever. ( Unless one has a vested interest/personal gain from promoting it, that is.)

Everything the Feds touch turns to crap.

I have been saying this forever and there will always be some that would rather be taken care of as slaves than to risk being on their own and free. The problem with these people is that they want ALL of us to be slaves not just them.

I would support single payer under the following circumstances:

1) Illegal immigration is controlled. We can't have unchecked illegal immigration and unlimited healthcare. The system cannot support it.

2) Everyone has to pay income taxes. I don't care if you only make $10,000 a year, you need to pay something. We can't have 50% of the populace not paying taxes and pay for this stuff.

3) Current healthcare regulations need to be fully repealed and the market opened up so that those who can afford private supplemental insurance can purchase it. This would involve decoupling insurance from employers and giving any tax benefit to the individual directly. Overriding state laws on insurance so that it can be sold across state lines. Allowing any affinity group to purchase insurance for their members i.e., if you are a plumber you can join plumber association and get your insurance through them.

4) Any taxes/government funds used for single payer cannot be used for any other purpose. In other words, politicians can't dip into the healthcare fund to pay for other sh*t.

5) All government employees, including all three branches of government must use the government health insurance plan and cannot have any benefits above and beyond the public that they do not pay for themselves.

I think the free market option would prove to be better for most people, but I like having the government backstop.

why complain about it? You could get in on the insurance market and gouge the people and make some cash. This is a free market, if you don't screw the little guy, somebody else will right? I thought that was your mantra.

I don't have a issue with that but we still don't really have a free market in healthcare.

Get Real! "Free Market" Health Care? There is no free market (USA).

The solutions choices are obvious: "Nationalize" it like the Brits, et al ...
OR
* Regulate it to the point that prices are controlled, fees are standardized, and insurance companies only get profit from processing paperwork - not "adjusting" claims or refusing medical procedures.
* Control price charges by big pharma like other countries do. Ban TV advertising of prescription products. Guess how much doctor tme is spent answering TV ad questions "if this s right for you". I think we're the only place where the government promotes 3000 percent price increases in critical medicine prices, or even just Epi Pens.
* Tighten up the regulations on big money "non profit" hospital CEOs with $6 millon salary plus bonus and billion dollar medical campuses within 30 miles of each other.

In other words, take excess profit incentives out of health care industries - a healthy tax on excess profits might help
instead of subsidies for more products shoved down consumers throats at higher prices than everywhere else in the world.
