Only one firearm involved, no rounds were discharged.
So Just south of me there was an incident in the next county where three robbers trespassed onto a mans property while he was hanging out in his yard with someone who appears to be a young relative when they were accosted by three armed men around 4:45 am. This homeowner was not having it an whipped out a giant machete to fight them off. He disarmed the coward with the shotgun, and held him down for police, the rest of the crew were apprehended in their vehicle while in possession of other tools of the trade at another location.

Sarasota County Sheriff's Office
The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested five men from South Florida in connection with an Armed Robbery that occurred early Thursday morning in Sarasota.

Just after 4:45 a.m., the Public Safety Communications Center received a report of a suspicious person armed with a rifle, at a home in the 2100 block of Dodge Avenue. As deputies were responding, more information was gathered indicating that the homeowner disarmed the suspect and was holding him until law enforcement arrived. As calltakers gathered details and deputies began to arrive, the victim advised that two more suspects were involved and fled prior to law enforcement arrival. Based on a description of the suspect's vehicle, deputies were able to quickly locate it at a gas station in the 5600 block of Fruitville Road. Four men wearing dark clothing were found inside the car, one of whom was carrying several zip ties.

All five men were interviewed by detectives and two of them admitted to committing the robbery. As detectives continued to gather evidence, they recovered surveillance video from the victim's home which captured the entire incident. Video shows Alen Beltran-Vazquez, Angel Cabrera-Basulto and Ronier Jauregui-Lorente enter the victim's porch armed with a shotgun, machete and crowbar, in an attempt to rob the victim. Cabrera-Basulto and Jauregui-Lorente are seen fleeing the home while the victim arms himself with a machete and holds Beltran-Vazquez until deputies arrive.

Detectives identified Jorge Valido-Leyva and Roberto Salcedo-Balanza as the other men in the vehicle and through interviews, learned that they helped coordinate and plan the robbery.

Florida knows how to handle its #. Either the guy holding the rifle was a bluffing coward, or the weapon was not functional to begin with. No details on that yet. Either way, thankful the homeowner and company were unharmed.

Forgot their gorgeous mugs for everyone to admire!

Good for homeowner! As a big 2A advocate and one who will have no qualms using deadly force to protect my home and family (go Texas!), I have no sympathy for folks who think they are entitled to the freedom/safety/property of others.

Perhaps someone should have schooled the bozo that you don't pick up a gun unless you are committed to using it if necessary? I'm glad he didn't use his crminals firearm in this case, but another example of someone holding a gun who has no business doing so...now how long before folks want us to have licenses to own/use a machete in self-defense?

Good riddance and please get that guy a cold one. The 5 would be robbers were either really stupid or in way over there heads. I'm glad that the guy with the shotgun didn't fire though it looked like it could've been a prop or it wasn't loaded in the first place.

Sounds like these fools walked up on an ACTUAL bad arse. Boys fold when confronted with confidence bolstered by experience.

They look just the like antifa cowards.

This why covering your face in public should be outlawed unless it is below freezing.

Even then if you commit a crime while your face is covered, the penalty should be tripled.

Nope, I'll cover my face if I want to...

Good for this guy though. More violent idiots off the street.

I laughed long and hard when I saw that video...

I assume the shotgun was not loaded, I am glad it worked out in his favor.... when the little dog ran out at the end I lost it.

Very good on him... though I would consider getting a CCW and be packing if that happens again, he might not be so lucky if the criminals are also armed.

That poor little confused pup. He looks like he can't figure out who's the good guy. Kind of a motley crew - Charlie Chaplinesque-that little pup stole the show for sure.

Anybody notice that young man in the white and black shirt makes certain to grab a cigarette first before he charges off to help the man when he gets up off the ground??

He still holding it when he brings back the gun, although it appears unlit. Gotta take that edge off you know??

Nice work from the homeowner! What the clown with the gun was doing, I can't imagine, except, I'd say the zip ties might be a factor. Maybe they planned to capture these people, and hold them hostage, and thus didn't want to shoot for whatever reason? Nice to see them caught, because their intentions couldn't possibly have been good.

I agree. Zip ties usually means they were preparing to take hostages for ransom...not a simple robbery.

I am proud to see no one was hurt and the bad guys facing justice. Admittedly, I laughed when the guy reappeared with a machete bigger than the perp. Glad to see the 2 pussies hovering over the younger individual jump the fence then!

Also, did laugh at the little 'watch' dog come in at the end. I could only imagine him yapping...we got them...'yep... We sure did!'

What an idiot. You guys really think this was brave? This guy was stupid and really, really lucky that the guy with the shotgun wasn't prepared to use it. This could've easily went the other way, and this thread would be filled with Darwin award jokes and puns about bringing a knife, even a really big knife, to a gunfight. Good that it worked out for him, I despise scum like these 5 goons that attacked him and I hope they do a ton of time.

Seriously? I agree with the guy on the fact that I would rather die fighting than just let some crazy yahoos kill or behead my family! He had no idea what these assailants had planned.

I feel sorry for you and your loved ones if you ever were in the same predicament. I take that back...I feel sorry for your 'loved ones'...since you obviously would not protect them...no matter what!

Bunch of incorrect assumptions. I'm always armed in/around my home and pretty much everywhere it's legally allowed. And I'm not talking about a machete. 9 times outta 10 this guy woulda got his face blown off. He got lucky. That's all.

Obviously, this man didn't have a gun that was accessible to defend his family. It is obvious after throwing the 2x6 board at his attackers early in the video...they didn't shoot off their shot gun...he accurately assessed that he would have good odds confronting them.

And before he threw the board at them while staring down the barrel of a gun he didn't know that. All you did was move the stupidity back 30 seconds, nothing changed. He got lucky. I'm glad he did.

I was hoping to see the guy come out with an AK and just start filling the assailants with holes.

I don't have all the details, but based on how this went down, I believe the victims and suspects may be known to each other. The zip ties do not necessarily mean hostage or ransom. It is more likely they simply planned on keeping them restrained while they searched the home for what they no doubt had an idea was something of value stashed away somewhere.

Not to mention the man with the shotgun is a moron in crime 101.
If you are going to not pull the trigger on a firearm, then your best form of leverage is to keep it targeted towards the loved on or friend of the person you need to disarm himself. The defender may not give a damn if he lives or dies, but he will certainly not want to be responsible for the possible death of a loved one.

These guys were local idiots, who likely know about large cash sums, drugs, bullion or any combination of all three and more within the home. Perhaps through mutual acquaintances of the younger fellow. You know young folks, always like to brag.

He got lucky.

I agree, but the point is understated.

The guy with the machete sucked-up every bit of luck there was in the entire state of Flori-duh.

No sir, 9 times out of 10 this same scene would have played out. It's that 1 time you would have to look out for.
