Senior Iranian officials have accused the US of supporting the Islamic State terrorist group and effectively forming an alliance with it, claiming that Tehran possesses documents to prove the allegations. No evidence, however, has yet been presented.

Typical, you want to limit the list to unconquered or thus far un- destabilized regions of the ME, lol, thats a short list. You know as well as I Iran is top of the list.

ISIS is almost cartoonishly evil, like they're villains in a cheesy action movie. It occurred to me a long time ago that they're trying too hard to be bad guys. Almost certainly, it is an astroturf organization being led by some major power.

I'm pretty sure that the guys in charge are either Israel (as noted, due to their conspicuous lack of interest in targeting the one country that everyone else in the Muslim world hates passionately) and/or the United States (due to how it conveniently appeared when the Obama Admin needed new bad guys, and how it was only after Trump took office that we finally got serious about trying to stop them).

Exactly right. Iran would waste no time going to war by hitting Israel or the US base in Qatar if they had real proof and not made up proof.

They are acutely aware of the problems they face.

Taking on Israel or the US directly is out of the question.

Hezbollah is their proxy for conflict with Israel.

The Russian alignment is as far as they take conflict with the US.

Shia Islam is not to be confused with the Salafist/Wahabi version.

Mohammad Mosaddegh and the lesson of how US foreign policy really works has not been forgotten.

Khomeini was not worse than Pahlavi.

The Revolutionary Guards were not worse than Savak.

They even have "sort of elections" like real republics.

Compared to the House of Saud they are almost reasonable people.

In the whole Islamic Middle East they are the only sign of progress.
