Just some background. When they first 'discovered' the North American continent they thought they had found another route to India, thats why they called the natives they encountered Indians. The term stuck, still misued today. There were many indigenous native peoples here before anyone from Middle Europe arrived.

They killed most all of them off, destroying their nations, infrastructure and untold numbers of peoples.

Well Indian isn't tech. correct. Native Americans, First Nations, Aboriginal or Indigenous peoples, though are fine. Kind of the same way "Eskimo" isn't exactly pc, up in Alaska, they might refer to each-other as Iñupiat- plural or Iñupiaq- singular.....

Indians was mainly a thing because good ol Chris Columbus thought he had made his way to the Indian ocean when he landed in America, and incorrectly labeled the people.
