If he was trying to impose his beliefs, wouldn't he basically be threatening us, to believe his beliefs, or else.

This applies to everyone...politicians, the religious and climate nuts. I don't bother anybody and I just want to be left to enjoy my life and my family so stop inflicting your dogma on other people.

I don't agree with everything people do, but I also don't go out of my way to impose my belief system on others. I might bitch about it on ATS and maybe try to change your mind, but I wouldn't try to do anything that would force you to change your life or compromise your individual freedom to make your own mistakes.

If you believe in something then be the change you want, but don't force others to deal with your priorities...you don't have that right.

But the OP actually is inflicting your beliefs on others. Read it with an open mind. You are trying to push your beliefs on others. Not that it is a bad thing, only that it actually is doing exactly what you are complaining about.

Aww. Gee, I am late with this, I should have read more of the posts lower on the page. Seems like there are others who believe just as I do about this thread, I should have read down farther than I initially did. I just slapped my face for not reading farther down before commenting.

is it just a clever cliché to help one walk away from a conversation. Or is it as you defined above, threatening... believe or else?

If it is the later then can you honestly say that this what happens here on these boards. Was Metallicus a victim of such an act of persecution?

In the context of a rant I understand what Metallicus is saying. There are some pretty awful trolling and baiting from both sides on these boards, I'm just challenging myself and readers to look at it objectively.

There is a difference between exchanging ideas and forcing your beliefs on others. I don't mind talking, but I do mind legislation designed to force my compliance (or yours).

I have heard the quote as well

I think a person who is told in a considerate way
I am not interested in your religious, political, philosophical beliefs, then its time to remain silent about them

Just because some one rants about an issue, that doesnt exclude every one else from a different belief
I am always interested to hear different points of view.
It is important that the person speaking them isnt a crazy ranting mad man
