I always thought The Beatles were just OK. I considered them as an olden day boy band, massively over rated.

But, I've developed a bit of a problem these past couple of weeks, akin to substance abuse.
I CAN NOT stop listening to the Magical Mystery Tour album and parts of the White Album and Sgt Peppers.

Even when I'm not listening to it, Mystery Tour, I Am the Walrus, Strawberry Fields, Hello Goodbye or Helter Skelter will pop into my head every ten minutes.

I think I'm obsessed...

Especially Sgt. Peppers, Thought by many to be a transitional album, taking rock to this whole other place. When I first discovered it I played it till it wore out.

So welcome to the club.

From the comments section below the vid:

People today haven't a clue of just how groundbreaking and extraordinary this song was back in 1967.

Just remember, the Beatlemania era of the Beatles happened when they WERE just a boy band with bubblegum lyrics. Though Help! and Hard Days Night are great albums still. The later albums came out after they stopped touring. So the ones you are addicted to are after they reinvented their sound and became leaders of the hippie movement.

Totally disagree.

" Revolver " in my opinion and many others is a far superior album to " Sgt Pepper ".

Revolver was recorded and released whist The Beatles where still touring.

It was after George and Johns first trip Acid trip in 65 that helped them change their style for the better which began with the Revolver album

Beatles' Acid Test: How '___' Opened the Door to 'Revolver'

An interesting article on how it all came to be and unfortunately end them

Anyone seen the winged beetle documentry?
When you look into the occult side of the beatles.
You go from a very sweet boy band too a troubled group of young men wrapped up in something they never wanted to be into.

Revolver was the beginning of their new sound though which lead to them stopping touring.

I find the beatles to be one of the most over-rated bands in existence, and I honestly can't stand them. With that said, I'm very sorry for your pain.

If you want over rated then look no further than Elvis Presley.

The bloke never wrote a song. Nothing more than a performer.

Haha
No nothing like that.
I heard Magical Mystery Tour properly for the first time. Although I heard it many times before it was always background radio noise at work or whatever.
Hearing it properly I noticed the weird production of the track, how it sounds sped up but slowed down at the same time in parts, things like that.
I gave the whole album a chance and was blown away by how ahead of it's time it was. All the strange vocal processing, layering and backwards masking. Using those production techniques in the mid 60s, before digital music production, absolutely perfect craftsmanship.
Also I could see how they've influenced a lot of my favourite bands.

I actually watched that last night. Very interesting watch, although I'm not sure how seriously some parts of it should be taken.

Revolver is a great album and I also think Rubber Soul was a good album. However, their studio years allowed for more experimentation and this is evident from Sgt Pepper's onwards.

The Beatles being referred to as a Boy Band always makes me smile.

welcome to the Beatles music thought intrusion club, our family watched Ed Sullivan and the Beatles in 64 their presence and projection of joy and well being was a much needed relief from the lingering sadness of JFK death just three months before. I remember my fathers famous line after viewing the mop tops "they are never going to make it" We enjoyed reminding him of that over the decades. Anywho just listen to other music for awhile and you will recover..." There's a fog upon LA and my friends have lost their way."....

Yeah the experimentation started coming in with Revolver and Sgt Peppers. Anything before that just kinda has that generic 60s sound, not too interesting to me. I will give it a proper chance at some point though.
Mystery Tour is just pure experimentation all the way through. I love that weird stuff. I've always been a big Primus fan and can see where they get their oddness from.
Also there's a little known band called Cardiacs who I love, where the influence is obvious. It's clear that the Beatles' off the wall studio artistry paved the way for so many other amazing bands to just do what they wanted to do.

Only a few weeks back I realised I didn't own a hard copy of Abbey Road - since buying the CD it's barely left my car's player!

Your ignorance shines. These are the guys who took bubblegummers
to new heights and then introduced them to a
psychedelic world where they could ignore the bureaucracy and
evil politics of the day. People like you are nowhere in the history
of rock.

but they got along just fine without you as a fan.
