My first thread in this forum as I'm no expert in this field but I found this article this morning which looks pretty interesting. Solar system very similar to our own is found:

www.space.com...

A young planetary system located only 10.5 light-years away has a structure remarkably similar to Earth's solar system, a new study shows. Using NASA's Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) — a modified 747 jet equipped with a 100-inch (2.5 meters) telescope — researchers studied the planetary system circling the young, sun-like star Epsilon Eridani. This system boasts an asteroid belt-like ring of debris, much as Earth's solar system does. As one of Earth's closest stellar neighbors, the Epsilon Eridani system is "a prime location to research how planets form around stars like our sun," said a statement from the SOFIA Science Center

As I say I'm no expert so don't have much to add except going by the artist impressions of what the system looks like, this could be it... the big one for discovery of life similar to our own.

In the Middle Ages, there were some Muslims who believed there are Seven Earths each with it's own humans.

Well I believe certain Muslims did come from some other place different to the rest of us.

Perhaps it is relevant to remind younger ATS folks that the Epsilon Eridani system was the star system determined by Marjorie Fish to be the home of the ETs that abducted Betty and Barney Hill in 1961.

Betty Hill recalled under hypnosis that she questioned the nazi-like captain of the UFO where they were from and he gave her an explanation that related to a model or image of their star system on the wall (as I recall) that showed two fairly close stars that were trading partners.

The so-called "Fish star map" was a hot controversy a few decades ago with Carl Sagan determined to show that it had no value. With Sagan having been adamantly pro-UFO during his graduate schooling days, then flip-flopping to be the unofficial national leading scientist to totally deny the presence of UFOs, he always seem to me that he protested the map too much. I was there in a manner of speaking, actually, for the whole growth of the UFO controversy and then some.

Thanks for that. like a lot of stuff, I had forgot about Betty and her abduction case but in any case I wouldn't have thought about it.. I only posted this thread as the graphic points to it being very similar to our system.

Sure, but it comes down to why the intense scientific interest in similar worlds and suns like ours when (as far as the public knows) it is not likely that humans will ever be able to travel there in the foreseeable future. It is all indicative, from the appearance of the things we call UFOs, to the hidden motives of the "space race," our planetary probes, to science's booming interest in ETs and where they reside. They are all inclusive and evidence of the big, obvious today, question of "Are we alone?"

The more we study the universe the more we see we have NOTHING of unique and/or special.

I remember when WATER was thought unique to earth.

Isn't Epsilon Eridani the home system of the Vulcans, in Star Trek?

Cool find!

Epsilon Eridani is one of the most mentioned stars in science fiction. It was once suggested that the Epsilon Eridani system was the location of the planet Vulcan in Star Trek. It has also been mentioned in Space: Above and Beyond, the Halo games, the classic Elite II and Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series. However, it is probably most famous for hosting “the last, best hope” for Bruce Boxleitner’s career – Babylon 5.

Actually, having a large Moon like ours that, from the perspective of those on the surface of Earth, perfectly blocks the disc of the Sun during a solar eclipse, revealing only the corona of the Sun (during a total eclipse) is likely quite rare and probably something of an exotic experience, even to e.t. from other planets.

Never heard the stories the aliensun mentioned earlier, but the name Epsilon Eridani struck a cord with me for some reason.

I was under the impression that it was the Zeta Reticuli double star system, which is located approximately 37 light years from the Sun.

If ET can zip around to other solar systems unrestricted then ET can produce as many eclipses as desired by simply positioning the ship in the shadow of a planet - IE no big deal but different life forms evolved from different origins .... now there's a major drawcard for anatomical/DNA students
