Both of us were talking about conjecture. In fact you are talking conjecture, unless you are an inner circler.

Maybe the President of the USA knows something that we don't

Or, he knows very little about what it takes to put people on Mars.
He knows more than you. He's the President and you are not.

I haven't seen that plan.
But ok, he would have a month (part of January) in 2025 if reelected.

It would be a major bummer if it failed and lives
were lost due to poor planning and a rush to get to mars in order to gratify a puffed up ego.

But: I think it would actually make a good thread of speculation done by one of you, a serious thread about it.

With a project of this size, what does it mean to rush it? What does it mean to not rush it?

Nothing will be done, or get done without many cords of flaming wood being placed directly under the correct asses. NASA is a huge bureaucracy and they saw what happened to Apollo when they reached their supposed goal of man on the moon.

My favorite was the response from Popular Science.

"What would it take to actually get to Mars by 2020?"

"Short answer: a time machine."

I think, and I have been wrong many many times, that NASA and the pres may know a little more than Pop Sc.

Pres Trump wants to have NASA astronauts on Mars within his first term, or failing that his second term. Pres Trump was on a call to astronaut Ms Watson who just set a record for staying in space, 534 days.

www.telegraph.co.uk...
Donald Trump instructed Nasa astronauts to get to Mars within his first term - or failing that, his second term, in a livestream with Peggy Whitson.

He was calling up the Space Station to congratulate astronaut Ms Whitson for her record-beating stay in Space: she's been up there for more than 534 days, which was the previous record.

Trump appears to have changed his mind on when he want "boots" on mars. He first signed a bill for a landing in the 2030's now he wants that to be moved up to his first term or at worst his second. That is a tall order, and will take lots of $$$$$$$$.

Appearing to forget he had signed a bill directing Nasa to send astronauts to Mars by the 2030s, Mr Trump asked: "Tell me, Mars, what do you see a timing for actually sending humans to Mars?"

Politely, Ms Whitson replied: "Well, I think as your bill directed it will be approximately in the 2030s".

Mr Trump said: "We want to do it during my first term and at worst during my second term so we want to speed that up, OK? "

It's Whitson btw. Watching the interview he was totally joking and if you didn't sense that you should watch it again

He did sound serious asking about a timeframe getting there. But was all smiles when he commented to her, jokingly not in any serious manner, that they get it done in his first and second term laughing along with his wife and the other astronaut who were both at his side. The production crew was laughing at his little joke as well. In fact it was the only time in the whole interview he laughed out loud. At other times he just cracked smiles. He also already had a big cheesy smile right before he commented to her about it.
