Treasury refuses to give Exxon Mobil special waiver to drill in sanctioned Russia

The Trump administration will not grant special permission to U.S. companies, including Exxon Mobil, to carry out oil and gas drilling in Russia while sanctions remain intact, according to a statement from Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin on Friday.

Shares of Exxon Mobil were marginally lower Friday.

Exxon tried to secure a waiver that would let it drill in parts of Russia currently blocked by U.S. sanctions, The Wall Street Journal reported this week. That ban was related to Moscow's 2014 annexation of Crimea and support for separatists in eastern Ukraine.

The push came about a month after former Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson became secretary of State. The Treasury's decision on Friday came as the Trump administration changed its tone on Russia.

Rex Tillerson was the CEO of Exxon and now is the SoS. Could you imagine the controversy even without spin?
What will be interesting is if anyone else is allowed....

Trump putting the former CEO of Exxon and receiver of Russia's highest civilian medal isn't at all suspicious. The Treasury giving Exxon the okay to ignore sanctions wouldn't at all been suspicious. Why they would even ask in the first place is beyond stupid.

Russian doesn't just want to work with Exxon, they want the sanctions gone because oil is their bread and butter so this stupid little request from Exxon isn't the end all be all. That said, keep watching this relationship because it ain't over.

It is way past time that we focused on drilling our own VAST oil reserves.

This has happened in many of the previous administrations.

Bush and Cheney did the no bid contract with Halliburton.

The Clinton's are now worth almost half a billion as career politicians.

And many of the congressman inside trade.

As long as we go after individual people or parties, they're covered in blanket safety of saying its a partisan hit piece.

Its time we uncover ALL of them.
