Great guitar- you're right!
I like that. "Hauntingly familiar."

It's a line from "Walking in London"

I heard Concrete Blonde for the first time on an IRS compilation (song is below. Not a bad intro, huh?!). I knew that I would be following them! Nobody else really sounds like them.

There is energy in the songs that need it, slow pathos on dirges like Caroline, even pop melancholy like found on Joey. Bloodletting is a great album. Yes, a whole album you put on from beginning to end is something that most people don't do anymore. Btw, Johnette was reading Anne Rice at the time so no wonder you associate it with New Orleans and vampires!

Thanks for the thread for one of the best bands!

So let's me and you, go get a new tattoo
We can hop on the Harley and cruise
We can start at the pier and share a beer
Head out to the desert, I can hear it from here
Ride all the way to where the lizards play
Riding on, and on, and on
There's a million stars it will blow you away
It's all so concrete blonde...

Y'all are so young! The late 80's early 90's were the Vampire/Goth years, and some great bands (like Concrete Blond) came out of that time frame - The Toadies, Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, etc...lots of NOLA songs and Goth was very bigly back then.

"Going down by the river where its warm and green..." Hard to believe Johnette Napolitano is 60 years old now...a great talent. I was lucky enough to see them at The Funky Pirate in NOLA way back when we all were yooung...

Nice thread OP

Thanks for calling me young!

Possibly one of the most influential bands in the Goth genre is one of my fave bands of all time: Bauhaus. I can hear their influence in all of those bands you quoted. Going back a bit further there's always Lou Reed and David Bowie...

Good for sharing, one of those songs that brings back memories and emotions.
Sorry later here, didn't catch this when you first post it.

I do think lot has changed music-wise since the 90s. I kind of think that music albums, in general, are a lost art. I also know there are lots of great artists out there doing what they love simply for the creative process or for sharing art etc, and probably always will be! Good news

Yeah, for the most part albums went the way of the cassette tape, blame digital music trends-not torrents! Sadly so, because album was one of my funnest point of being a designer. Also, themed albums are some of my favorites when it comes to bands I like.
