A university student in Pakistan accused of blasphemy against Islam has been killed by a mob of fellow students on campus.

The religion of _____

A mob beat a Pakistani student to death at his university campus on Thursday after he was accused of sharing blasphemous content on social media, university and police officials said.

A group of about 10 students shouted "Allahu Akbar" during the attack on fellow student Mashal Khan, who was stripped naked and beaten with planks until his skull caved in as other students looked on

Blasphemy is a highly sensitive topic in Muslim-majority Pakistan, where insulting the Prophet Mohammed is a capital crime that has dozens languishing on death row and where even an accusation can lead to violence.

Overkill

"After severe torture that led his death, the charged students then wanted to burn his body," said Shinwari.

Conform or else

One of Khan's teachers recalled that he was a passionate and critical student.

"He was brilliant ‎and inquisitive, always complaining about the political system of the country, but I never heard him saying anything controversial against the religion," said the teacher.

In 2011, a bodyguard assassinated Punjab provincial governor Salman Taseer after the governor called for reforming blasphemy laws.

Become a Martyr

Taseer's killer, executed last year, has been hailed by religious hard-liners as a martyr to Islam and a shrine has been erected at his grave.

This isn't an anti-islam thread, don't shoot the messenger. Apparently hundreds of people were around when this happened and nobody tried to stop it. There's also videos of the incident somewhere, but I didn't bother to search for them.

Only the flimsiest and weakest ideas need be protected by mob violence and censorship. What a travesty. Another incident in a sea of them.

Opinions and free speech is a universal right, except in Islam - therein it is a crime punishable by death - "do not diss our unprovable fantasy about our cherished pedophile"

They are animals what a sick religion. Why exactly was it necessary to strip the man before the beating?

To shame him as much as possible before killing him, and even after killing him.

Oh i thought the OP was about the 15 year old boy that got beheaded for listening to western music. Sorry my bad but yeah i'm not surprised at all. Makes my blood boil but hey at least i'm not a racist. I hope the parents of the victim get some justice on there own. Islam is dangerous and it is slowly turning into a cult mentality. F#ck these students. The poor parents now have to deal with the fact hat their son got killed over nothing. I hate religion so much.

Prediction.
There will be condemnation, followed by deflection, by those who do not believe that there is something inherently wrong with the religion of Islam.

Apparently there is another video of him giving some kind of interview before this happened. I spotted a small crowd following behind him after he left the interviewer but it got cut off. I have no idea what was said though.

Just another day in a Muslim majority country. Who are we to criticize moderate Muslims for exercising their religious rights?

Not posting it and denying others the opportunity to assess it themselves would be ignorant...

ATS denies ignorance, so yes, it can and should be posted.

And except for on the American university campus where rioting and preventing opinions one disagrees with is also becoming the norm. In a few cases, there has been physical violence too.

It might only be a matter of time before colleges travel down this road.

Live by, die by. It's not a religion for the light of heart it seems to me. Only the heavy heart can bear the burden of Islam, yes I called it what it is....a burden.

We're living in a sick world. I remember back in the 90s when secularist and Christian writers were railing against the "new age" movement claiming it was going to "cast us back into the dark ages." Guess what. Islam and "Christianity" seems to be doing a bang up job of that with their renewed "crusade" bull#. But the "new age" movement is the bogeyman, right? "Ok."

Anyway, it seems like every other day we hear about some "honor" killing bull#, or some "we must kill all Muslims" #. In the meantime, the world boils and it's always some other ideology's or isms "fault."

Let's just cut to the chase. They're are religious fanatics who seem to think they have the "answers" and are above everyone else. Until that's eliminated, there's not going to be any peace of mind or otherwise.

I am not anti-religious. I think people can believe or disbelieve whatever they wish. However, when those beliefs start intruding and trampling on the very fabric of HUMANITY, forget "society," it has been lost for a while, something needs to be done.
