Need car buying advice

Buy a Nissan.

I have put mine through hell and it has given me no trouble. Replaced the spark plugs once in the last 8 years.

Had a Toyota 4 Runner. Blown head. Ford. Blown head. Jeep I had, carbon build up on the valves, causing a missing cylinder. Took it to the jeep dealership and all they could give me was OBD scanners says misfire. I'm like yeah, duh.

Did a google search and found out that Jeep had a technical sheet out about the carbon buildup.

I've never taken my Nissan to the shop for ANYTHING.

I agree the op could get a Nissan, I'd go for ether a skyline R32-34 Gtr or 350Z-370Z... Sorry OP those maybe out of your budget for now, possibly not if you get a fantastic deal.

Downsize everything. Your budget, standard of living and your "stuff". Living beyond your means and having things that suggest you have more money than you actually do are all recipes for a life in debt and make you appear as if you don't know what you're doing. Oh, and buy an American made model. Parts are easier to come by, cheaper to maintain and, if you keep to the manufacturers suggested maintenance schedule, it will last forever. Maintaining a vehicle will always be cheaper than fixing one or constantly buying one every few years. Don't take the first one you see, do research on the one's that catch your eye and don't take the dealer's/private owner's word on the maintenance that has been supposedly performed. If the vehicle has 50,000 miles on it, look at what maintenance should be performed for that mileage and do it. Something like that shouldn't cost you more than a few hundred dollars.

You're just starting out out, so I wouldn't overthink the vehicle aspect of your life. With the way the used market is right now you can get a good one for 4 grand.

I have a Focus sitting at 165,000, still runs like a champ and still gets an average of 38mpg on the highway. I had a Cavalier that I put 225,000 on, but had to replace it when I hit a deer. I drive for a living so maintenance schedules are my Bible and gas efficient cars are my bread and butter.
