I didn't expect you to answer. You posted your answer while I was writing my comment, which is why they're a minute apart.

Do you want a cookie or something for answering? I edited my post, move on with your life.

I didn't see your edit. and yes, I want a cookie.

The unfortunate and undoubtedly scary thing is that America is heading towards some kind of showdown. At this stage I cannot see how the division can ever be healed and there is only so long that people will sit and accept the violence and deceit on display from far left groups.

Not sure what side I would be on stuck on.

I would be on my porch, making sure the 'revolution' stayed on the street.

I hear ya. I'm not going anywhere either. A civil war though has this way of being upset about people who chose not to pick a side.

Impeachment? Meh. If Trump is guilty enough to impeach, then impeach him. I don't care.

But if the anti-American leftists stage a coup, then that will be war.

I fear there are too many in this country that would not understand the difference between a legitimate impeachment and a coup.

actually, I think we are in a soft coup right now....too many people with monied ties to Russia in our executive branch

That's possible.

I wonder if the 3%ers thought about that.

Well if Trump got impeached or otherwise, I'm pretty sure a lot of people will be up in arms.

And our army would stop them in a day.

No matter what you Leftists think of him, he is the Commander in Chief.
And if there is an attempt to remove him from office illegally, it is the military's duty to defend him.

The military's duty is to defend The Constitution.

Not whatever President happens to be in office.

Think again.
Trump is the Constitutionally elected President under the 12th Amendment of The Constitution
Therefore it is their duty to defend him against an illegal coup by anyone.

It will not be the leftists to stage a coup, it will be his own military commander. Mattis is not impressed from what I have read.

OH EM GEE we are totally having a moment right now

If it starts to tingle or you experience any condition that lasts for more than 4 hours, consult a physician.

We need to stop, though. You've been to a militia meeting and I don't want to wind up on any more federal lists than I may already be.

Too late.

Wait...you're totally the other undercover that was at that meeting, aren't you? Dammit you were supposed to wear a red shirt!

I don't see Mattis doing anything against the Constitution.

In my opinion.

Isn't it an oversight to think that people who are not necessarily fond of Trump don't own firearms?

Yes that would be a severe oversight.

our entire government (state and federal) is under right-wing control, so what political group are you warning about?...far-left groups.

I haven't either, but he is fighting against the Trump admin wanting to fill defense with their donors and supporters. Mattis is a stand up guy.

Think a third time.

The military's duty is to the Constitution over anything else. The responsibility to "protect the President" as you keep wanting to put it is going to come down to who decides whether it's actually a coup (which, ps, "illegal coup" is pretty redundant) or a legal removal from office, and what their decision is.

And, regardless of all that, the overarching charge of duty is to defend the Constitution. Even in the event of a coup, they're still defending the Constitution rather than protecting the President.

ETA - it's an important distinction in words and, I think, a distinction that matters. When you start talking about "protecting a President" versus "support and defend the Constitution" you're taking an apolitical concept and skewing it into a political one.

It's great there's people with guns out there watching Trump's tweets for the word to start a civil war.

Because Trump is so careful what he tweets about.

Ive been trying to imagine a situation where total war is declared to militia groups and came up with the most possible outcome of Russia arming the militia and further working on the division of the country. In the event of a civil war, Russia is the great winner and USA and China would lose immensly.
