Ryan says it's going to be Obamacare 'for the foreseeable future'. Yea, sure this was a crafty Trump plan to 'see who to go after'. What a load of crap. This was a major FAIL crafted with duct tape and bailing wire and they got called on it. What was it Trump said? Something like he's going to repeal Obamacare on day 1? Something like that wasn't it?

Next up...reducing Trump's tax burden. That's what really matters.

Now Trump is blaming the Failure on the Democrats. If he can't even control his own party to support his policy, how is he going to get the dumb Wall built. Or put Hilldog in jail?

Or go to Mars? But his supporters still eat that BS right up. Curious.

Here is what Trump said to Robert Costa when he called him to give him the news:

Trump said he would not put the bill on the floor in the coming weeks. Instead, he is willing to wait and watch the current law continue and, in his view, encounter problems. And he believes that Democrats will eventually want to work with him on some kind of legislative fix to Obamacare, although he did not say when that would be.

Imagine that. No need to repeal. No need to replace. It was all just a show. Surprise.

Have to leave an issue for the midterms. This way they can campaign for 60 votes in the Senate to pass the health care reform everyone wants.

No need to repeal? No need to replace? That was just noise?

That's my assumption. They clearly never had a plan, only rhetoric.

If Trump is the master of deal making, why doesn't he make a deal with some of the Insurance Companies to go into the states that need more options? That would be a good deal.

I heard him say something to that effect today. He was essentially asking for the Democrat's help. He wants them to fix it.

Also, it's appalling to me that rather than do repairs and tweaking of the existing bill, he's willing to let it implode and "explode", even though it is the most fragile of Americans who will suffer for it.

What, oh what have we done.

Maybe Mr. T can become the new host of "Deal/No Deal" after he leaves the White House.

Didn't read the Art of the Deal did you? This is not just about Trump. It is about having the correct people to bring your vision to life and that is what did NOT happen. 7 years the GOP is crying saying they can get it passed, they start the first one under him after over 50 other failed attempts. He did not lose anything but the credibility of the GOP and those who said they could get it done is tarnished. Now they will HAVE to have Trumps help. He said his entire campaign that Washington cannot make good deals and he showed it again. Did you not watch the debates?

Now, he knows where everyone is and what everyone wants. The next draft will be more in line. It is about pushing boundaries and yes I think they should do it. Trump pulled it...no one else. Because he knew they were not ready and it is now out in the open. Ryan and the GOP did not deliver the goods as Trump would say. He is showing them how bad it can get if they do not get their # together.

A game. A politician takes the first deal that helps him. He is businessman and he is patient. It is a shame because removing the mandate alone is going to really boost jobs, business and taxes.

Not quite. The procedure they were using for this bill would have only taken 51% of the vote because they attached it to the budgeting process (I think it was budgeting atleast). Making legislation that stands on it's own as repeal and/or replace will fall under normal procedure and require 60% of the vote.

This bill was the best attempt they had at something Republican that could pass. It's also why they can't simply try again, and why they had to rush. Their next attempt will be much more difficult unless they wait a year.

Today was a complete and total defeat for Trump and a good example of why I think he will make a poor President. A good President is capable of negotiating when holding a weaker position as he was here. Trump only knows how to "negotiate" when he's already winning. Which is a position that is rare in politics though common in business.

Question though, what does "winning" mean to Trump? Being "not wrong?"
Since he constantly redefines how he was "right", he can't lose. Heads I win, tails you lose. (And it is important that there be a loser.)

In reality, this was a yuge loss for the GOP as well as the president.

But you won't hear that from him.

it's a bigger loss for the american people since it seems that for many important issues, we have a congress that is going to be unable to do much of anything. some are blaming trump, some are blaming ryan, some are blaming the dems...
but, what we have is some in the republican part that have a my way or no way frame of mind, and their way is so far right that not even the more moderate republicans in congress can get behind the laws after some concessions are made to that far right group... and even then, that far right group doesn't get everything they want, so they don't line up behind the legislation.
don't blame the dems for this crap!! even if they let obama care go on and it does spiral out of control!! all the republicans had to do was compromise between themselves, and they had enough votes to pass whatever they wanted...
but, the immovable wall has already been built in the republican congress, it's not moving, so there can be no compromise! it's their way or the highway... only their way would tank the flipping healthcare system faster that letting obamacare spiral out of control would!
as far as making a deal for health insurance companies to go into those states that the companies are pulling out of..
it's my understanding that it takes time and a rather large sum of money for companies to set up shop in new states, build up the groups of medical providers, ect... well, these states are pulling out because they are finding no profit in serving the obamacare group in those states. why would any new companies want to spend a ton of money in time building networks in these states when these other companies are saying that there is no profit in it??? by making a deal, I am assuming you are saying giving these companies some kind of financial incentive to do this, providing the funds for these insurance companies to build these networks...
only if you want to do this, why don't just provide the funding that would be needed to make it profitable for the insurance companies in these states to remain in the system?

Suck what up, Sweetcheeks?

Oh, you mean your over-generalized, I-don't-live-in-America-but-I'll-comment-on-their-issues-in-a-stereotypical-way-anyhow pointless comment about insurance companies? I prefer not to suck up manure when it's thrown at me.

"The rest of the First World..." blah blah blah. The bandwagon logical fallacy is irrelevant in an intelligent conversation--and if it even made any sense, people from these other first-world nations would not be spending tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars to travel to the United States in order to get the best health care--why isn't their amazing healthcare system good enough? Why doesn't their amazing healthcare system have access to all of the treatments and procedures that they need? Why, if they do, can't they always be accessed in a timely manner?

There are many reasons as to why health insurance costs so much, but you've only pretended to understand one facet of the gem that is our dicked up health insurance system. Yes, it's easy to scream 'corporate greed,' but that's just lazy in this instance.

Here's a funny story--I have access to the Veterans Administration hospitals and healthcare system, but I also have private health insurance. I have a possible (well, probable) rotator cuff issue in my left shoulder that makes it nearly impossible to do simple things like put my daughter in her car seat.

Using the VA system, I had to go see my primary-care physician so that he could set up X-Rays, for which I had to drive to a completely different facility (the main hospital in my area--about 30 minutes from my house). I did this all last week on Wednesday (March 22). I was told that I would have someone get in contact with me about the results and to set up another appointment with the shoulder specialist. I finally received a call on Friday morning--they couldn't tell me anything about the X-ray results, nor could they set me up with an appointment before JUNE of this year, so they gave me a direct number to the specialist to see if they could get me in earlier. I called--no answer, so I left a message. I got a call back yesterday afternoon--three working days after I left a message--to schedule an appointment, this time they were able to squeeze me in ON MAY 1st (yes, I see the irony). I still do not know ANYTHING about the X-rays that I already had done, but they want to do four more prior to my May 1st appointment, meaning I have to drive up to the VA hospital again for more X-rays prior to my appointment. Of course, if my should gets worse, I was told that I can always go to the emergency room at the VA hospital and they'll obviously see me right away...

This is using the government-run healthcare system available to me.

Now, since I also have private insurance, I could call right now, set up an appointment with a shoulder specialist in a private practice within a week (because I've done this exact thing before), have the X-rays done and read that day in the same facility, and know where I stand on my injury within a few days at most.

Government-run healthcare can suck my rotator cuff.

If an international response to your postings hurts your feelings, then I suggest you stick to an American-only echo chamber. As to all of these people rushing your borders to take advantage of your health care...that was a recent topic of conversation around here, and none of us reasonably well-traveled individuals knew of one person who had done so.

The topic is public accessibility and in that regard, the American system sucks. I read of people on ATS forced to pass on their health care in order to accommodate a loved one. That, my friend, is being forced to suck up manure.
