We're seeing that with all the services. They got the "kinder gentler" leadership in place and it's been downhill ever since.

So funny story about that:

A friend of mine's kid was home on leave (he's in a Recon Unit) has some combat time, thought he would be funny and take a swing at me. I made him cry. It was disgusting, a fully grown man that's seen combat crying because some old guy took him down is a fight. I let him up and he went somewhere, my friend and me shaking our heads wondering what the heck happened to the quality of people leading Marines (though I did pick on him for having a girly son, but that was just joshing back and forth. I couldn't imagine having that kind of friendly picking on with todays marines)

I'm sure there are still good tough Marines out there, but it's just the Leadership philosophies that need to be fixed for them to shine. A buddy of mine (different guy) just got out of the Coast Guard, and said there are too many whiners and not enough winners now days. I think he's right (and not just in the Service)

My father was Senor Enlisted Advisor for the VIP transport squadron at Hickam. His policy was that within 2 hours of them arriving and the people leaving that plane was either in a hangar, or its normal parking spot. If it wasn't getting any problems worked on, it was having systems checked, or being washed or polished. He maintained a 99.7% mission rate while he was there.

About two years after he got out, we went by and a guy was telling us about a recurring minor problem they couldn't fix. My father asked if they wanted him to tell them how to fix it, because it would only take about 20 minutes. They said no thanks, they'd deal with it after their next trip in a few days. At that point they were already down to a 95% mission rate and falling.

Now, apparently it's a joint Air Force and Navy base, and has been run into the ground.

I agree to an extent. But at the same time this is a great example of the utter failure the leadership has become.

Oh do not get me wrong... since people started trying to run the military like a business we have seen a lot of failures... the communities at bases seems to be dying at a rapid rate as folks do not want to associate away from work, because of the toxic atmosphere at work.

If I found any of my troops participating in a site like that, they would find out I am an A%@ hole... I will punish them repeatedly till they learn a lesson... Before people get bent out of shape, that is how you fix some people in the military.

We had a guy that just could not get the rules through their head... so every time they screwed up we punished him... after a couple months the light bulb lit up, and he became one of our best... so it is not done just to be mean.
