Since the blokes who were actually there on the Kokoda trial actually practiced mateship, which is a level above friendship, more akin to brotherhood, really. What right does anyone who didn't suffer along side them have to try and change the language?

Calling someone mate is only offensive to the kind of moron that you wouldn't want to hang out with anyway.

PC is so over the top and dominating when it is trotted out like this that it makes me wonder if it was ever really intended to stop people trying to hurt and belittle others with language.

These tablets belittle no one, except the terminally offended, a group of people that would make the world much better by simply dropping dead.

Well I'm really not really a conservative (more of a "classical" liberal or centrist) ... so not really my boogeyman. We are lucky so far in the US that PC are not yet law bindding. But if you look across the pond where they tend to be pore progressivly regressive than we are, there are several restrictions already on the books that makes hate speech punishable. That's the path I rather not see here in the US.

Well SCOTUS continues to uphold a racists' right to assemble and speak out about their intolerant opinions. Time and again they have upheld organizations like the KKK or nazis being able to march in towns and distribute their propaganda. So that really isn't an issue.

This is why I say this a conservative created bogeyman. The only people who complain about PC culture offending them is conservative media. There is no political basis for it and it only takes a modicum of common sense to see that freedom of speech isn't under assault by sjws. It is just a huge case of persecution complex.

That is how I see PC!

Do you see, PC?

It is like a PC virus; duplicating like a proper Trojan!

And believe me, it is one of these. If the human race is The City of Troy then PC is this:

These are my anxieties. They come from someone who cares about freedom and cares about humans.

Your honour, this defense rests its case before Judge and Jury, but NOT PC PC.

Be PCeeing you, lol!

I agree, one of the reasons Trump got elected is that he was able to break through the PC culture. Students at certain college campuses were keeping out conservative speakers.

I don't know where political correctness is going in a story like the one in the OP - there is not any reason someone would get offended that I am aware of.

It seems to be a problem, as controversial opinions could get someone "shadow banned" on Twitter. It happened to Dilbert creator Scott Adams.

Political Correctness is my sworn enemy because I know it will make us all miserable and under the thumb. We will hardly be able to move or breathe without offending somebody. We will all be moody and angry all the time. It is ludicrous and actually INSANE.

It is like communism. It will hold us all back and make us conform to something that will become increasingly archaic and truly irrelevant. This is the true meaning of retarded.

We're never gonna reach the stars with this PC BS.

I'm serious.

People think religion screwed up the world and held everyone back?!

Ain't seen nutin yet if this keeps up.

I hope it dies painfully.

I'm doing my part.

Authoritarian demands and language policing is highly offensive, mainly because it is oppression, and the property of totalitarian regimes.

You would think being Christian would include having consideration for others. Say you say "Merry Christmas" to an atheist and she found it offensive. Don't you think it would just be nice, considerate, and Christian to say "Happy Holidays" instead. Or, do we just take the low road and eff em by saying "Merry Christmas" ?

I never understand the outcry against political correctness. I think it is important to take other people's feelings into consideration. I don't say the eff word around my grandmother because she doesn't like.

Of course, my grandmother used say in her Edith Bunker like voice, "If you don't have anything nice to say, shut your God damn mouth."

See? That's the problem.

Why should I be the one to even bother with someones feelings about Christmas who hates it anyway?

Why can't they just turn their nose up and walk away?

Or say Merry Christmas back?

That's MY culture.

F'k em and feed them fish heads if they don't like it.

Correct thinking will be rewarded, incorrect thinking will be just as quickly punished. Adding the prefix "Politically" reminds us its censorship, 'political censorship' is straight out of 1984.

ETA:

The idea of censorship always precludes the enforcement of it. Now its words and phrases on the internet, one day it will be 'political correct action'. You go along to get along now, one day you will have no choice. You actions will be rewarded or punished.

Not everyone can watch this, it does make the point. Scene from the film, Marathon Man; "Is it safe?"

You must understand there are thousands of PC people in the world that gets paid hundreds of thousands to seek out PC offences so they are certainly not going to kill the golden goose that lays the golden eggs.
What offends one is OK with another, so all PC is another form of censorship. Offences against PC can be spoken, what you read, what you look at, your actions and even your thoughts.

I am a liberal and I think people should be more polite. If you want to call this "PC". I do agree that this is a conservative boogeyman as well. No one is trying to stop free speech.

Go ahead and be UnPC if you want. See how far it gets you.

(Hint - you're only going to piss people off and harm yourself in the process by missing out on opportunities.)

my mum sometimes calls me monkey boy. And I'm white !!!! imagine that.

When I was a tot my grandma called me Rosco.
I asked her why she called me Rosco, and she said because I was her little 'n-word' boy.
She started laughing and then I joined in. The nickname stuck.
