3 years ago, Russia annexed Crimea

In total, tens of thousands of people died in the Ukraine war which started in February 2014 when Yanukovych fled to Russia. 3 of these deaths occurred in Crimea, including 2 Ukrainian soldiers and 1 rebel. After a quick take over, Russia annexed Crimea on March 21, 2014 after a referendum. Russia's population increased by several million as a result. On July 28, 2016, Crimea was incorporated into the southern federal district.

Southern Russia is warm. Moscow is not bad either. Russians are from Scandinavia originally. Scandinavia is warm. Maritime climate.
