RIP, another legend, influenced pretty much all rock and roll, lost.

Berry achieved a number of firsts:
The first guitarist singer to reach charts.
The first rock and roller to write words that were relevant and entertaining to his young white audience with out alienating his core black audience.
First songwriter/performer in 1955.

He achieved all of this with a driving rock and roll rhythm that was, if not brand new certainly unique enough to be instantly recognizable. For those reasons he more than any other artist, is responsible for the direction of popular music.

He only had sex with and transported a 14 year old girl to have sex with some more from Juarez, Mexico to Missouri.
In his 20's...

But hey, that "my ding a ling" song, right?

His music was the soundtrack of my childhood. It was always rock n roll and soul. The first time we had a holiday abroad I was buying cheap cassettes of Berry, Wilson Pickett, Little Richard etc. David Oxtoby paintings. Lot of memories.

Beatles, Stones, Led Zep, Sabbath. They all cite him as an influence.

My favourite track is a live version of Wee Wee Hours that was one part Gospel and mostly bluesy. It was on a long lost LP and never to be heard again.

RIP.

Terrible news. I knew he was getting up there in age though and it had been a long while since he performed. Always one of my favorites. I remember listening to an old Chuck Berry album that my mom had 40 some odd years ago. The man had more musical ability in his pinky finger than Justin Bieber could ever hope to have.

I played and even sang some Chuck when I played with the Geriatrics. Sad, but a ripe ole age for sure. I bet he was still playing when he passed.

So many have passed but it will no doubt raise the musical bar in Heaven.

Just such a great time to be an Angel. They have all the good stuff now.

Heaven now rocks!

Who even knew Chuck Berry was still alive?

I though he died years ago. Must be someone else I'm thinking about.

Either way, RIP sir.

That's sad news.

It's strange that a 90 year old man's passing could be seen as 'sad', but, like Norge says, a bit of me went away too.

I always felt an affinity with Chuck because we both played guitar and shared the same birthday.

Probably best remembered for that iconic Johnny B. Goode riff.

Bless x

If you tried to give "Rock & Roll" another name you might call it Chuck Berry.
-John Lennon

I've been on stage playing Johnny B Goode and people still love that song (that was the 1980's).

RIP my good man! Everybody has played your guitar licks at least once in their life on stage! Any time a rocking lick appears you have to look and see, "Hey! That's just Chuck Berry sped up!" Name the greats, they have all at one time or another, borrowed, copied, out right steal, that old stand by: two strings barred and the bent third.

I agree Mr. Lennon! And thank you for the music, Mr. Berry!!

Mark June 16 as the release date for CHUCK, the final album from rock 'n' roll founding father Chuck Berry, who died Saturday (March 18) at the age of 90.

Berry's first new album since 1979 was produced by Berry himself and recorded in various studios around St. Louis, where he resided. The 10 tracks feature eight originals along with guest appearances by Tom Morello and Nathaniel Rateliff on "Big Boys" -- which is streaming below -- Gary Clark Jr. and Berry's grandson Charles Berry III.

WROR.com, March 22 - Final Chuck Berry Studio Release Due Out June 16.

I am conflicted on this news. Great, more Chuck Berry! But this will be it (besides compilations, releases, live recordings, etc). Some of these songs date back to the 80s so there is not good news there! It will be my first Chuck Berry album since the 80s!

One more for Chuck!
