Canadian filmmakers - Wants to Remake James Bond

As a kid i watched pretty much every James Bond flickr and my dad was a huge fan of the Ian Flemming franchise, it was magical world of technology that was amazing, well, then it was. And the journey from that took you one place to another, the cosmopolitan environment, the smells, the dance, the martini, streets, literature, politics, fashion, trend, economy and food, it was dense, without the mumbo jumbo.

Ian Fleming's was a troubled individual that needed to heal himself through knowledge gained through his writing.

James Bond creator Ian Fleming died in 1964, which means as of January 1st, 2015, his iconic characters and stories are now part of the public domain in many countries the world over. That includes Canada.

My favorite bond actor was no less than Sean Connery, i know that others thinks differently..

Why make remakes of a franchise if you can make original scripts in the Ian Flemming spirit.

It's already an ongoing remake.

How about they just follow the same general model, craft their own characters, get creative with new plots, and make some real movies.

This thing where remake based on old titles is the approach to movies makings these days is absurd. Many of these movies would be perfectly good without the old appeal that falls short.

Take for example Total Recall, Point Break, etc. Totally different movies, which sets themselves up for FAIL with the fans just because they just had to go put the old names and a couple little fan favorite elements in there. Hell, Total Recall wasn't even on Mars, and Point Break wasn't even a surfer movie, in the remakes.

Hell, Total Recall wasn't even on Mars, and Point Break wasn't even a surfer movie, in the remakes.

Yup. Bond is now rebooted as a cyber agent browsing tv and microwaves in an effort to fake news the fark out of commie bloggers.

Cant wait to see the arsenal of hacking tools Q can fit into a swiss army usb.

And think of the self driving cars chasing Bond into an exploding Apple store

Canadian ey? He'll probably have a license to stare rudely while maintaining the speed limit.

Sean Connery was the best for me too, followed by Timothy Dalton. Roger Moore was too gay, Pierce Brosnan was a pretty boy and Daniel Craig simply tries too hard.


Lazenby is not worth mentioning.

As a dystopian film buff, it was very challenging trying to watch Total Recall. I was actually doing work and 'playing' it (something I most often times do), and could never get sucked into it and distracted from my stuff. I might actually play it sometime when not working, drinking or laying down for bed, and not be too offended by it. Colin Ferrel is usually annoying. Waaay too SERIOUS all the time. And that's the tone I recall from the whole movie; SERIOUS while lacking the charms of the original.

Although I'm not a surfer, I've always loved Point Break. I will say I actually like the new one. Johnny Utah is kind of dooshy, but the Bodie guy is cool. It just should have been called something else, not had the names of the old story, and it should have done fine with the extreme sports / action / semi-political types.

Then there's the new RoboCop, which must be the grandest abomination of all time. Here they actually did do a 'proper' remake. That is, they couldn't have called it anything else. But instead of it being a portrait of a not so far off possible future as it was, as in a warning about corporate and criminal dystopian outcomes... instead its the most hardcore American Imperialism + DARPA tech propaganda piece in history. The original charms were missing here too. The crime ridden city decay element touch (thus warranting such a beast) completely lacking. A true dystopia in that film, of the military industrial complex variety. I suppose they got the projection of current trends as what was being depicted 'formula' right, but in my eyes it was pure DARPA fueled militarism propaganda. I do have a staunch anti-DARPA & militarism ias of course so to me it was drippingly obvious, in my mind. To most people though, wow wow wow look at all this crazy cool tech is how I envisioned the piece imprinting. RoboDude did buck the system. I suppose if the social outcome from the original wasn't still true a thing to be concerned with, then maybe it could have redeeming purpose all things considered... the problem is, Detroit is already further past the mark as seen in the original run, yet in this filmd the city is all neat and clean as in an alternate universe this monstrousity is set.

Oh totally, they remake popular movies to instill the 'new', proper spirit. See Roller Ball the original and the awful remake.

Films that expose the corrupt dystopia (North Dallas Forty, Brazil, THX 1138, but a few examples) hardly get played anymore.

The only ones they do play over and over are the ones that retain some super Brwando american exceptionalist perspective. Rambo-- ad infinitum for instance, gets over done to death.

Dr. Strangelove, not so much.

Though Nell may not be the traditional image of a bond girl. Who knows...Canadians don't sport many gold lame' bikinis. She could be hiding a great body under those petticoats.
