Train hits bus in Mississippi; unknown number dead, injured

BILOXI, Miss. (AP) — A train has collided with a charter bus in Biloxi, Mississippi, causing an unknown number of deaths and injuries.

Biloxi city spokesman Vincent Creel says emergency responders were still removing injured people from the bus more than 30 minutes after the crash Tuesday.

Looks like there has been a nasty accident in Biloxi. Prayers to everyone involved.

Creel says a CSX train headed eastbound hit the bus at a crossing in downtown Biloxi just before 2:15 p.m., pushing the bus about 300 feet down the tracks. He says a nearby hospital is setting up a triage unit at the site to treat the injured. Creel says as many as 50 people were on the bus. He said there are deaths and injuries, but he could not immediately quantify them.

That must have been a terrifying 300 feet....

One random detail the article says is that charter buses like this often carry "patrons" to casinos in Biloxi

Maybe the driver "bet" he could beat the train. Really sad and stupid if so.

This forum is for the discussion of contemporary world events, with a general focus on conspiracies and/or cover-ups that may not easily fit into other topical forums.

But it is a difficult call. Alternative news sounds more like conspiracy. I have put a lot of things in 'other' not knowing where to put it.

It was a charter bus from Austin, apparently carrying a lot of seniors.

Yes, it was a charter bus from Austin, but it was for a group of senior citizens from my area, Bastrop, Texas, on a gambling trip. My gal and I probably know a lot of them, but details of the four dead and over 20 hospitalized are unknown at this time. Most would have been elderly and old bones do not take trauma well. So I assume that there will be many serious injuries.

The bus got stuck in traffic on the tracks and the driver tried to get them all off before the train hit, but that did not happen.

The "conspiracy" is that this train crossing has such a steep ascent and descent to go over it that longer vehicles bottom out on their center on the middle of the track crossing.

ABC news said this is not the first time this has happened at this very crossing. A delivery truck was hit last year (??) with same problem: it bottomed out on the tracks and could not move.

A known problem should be disseminated to the public so they can pick alternate routes.

If what you are stating above is true, then there is a conspiracy.
Who ever maintains that road crossing, state, county and R.R. knew in advance there was a safety issue.
There is a little thing in the law called " reasonable care ".
And reckless disregard.
Call in the Bambulace chasers, they'll sort it out.

National Transportation Safety Board member Robert Sumwalt said the crossing in Biloxi has a hump that has caused tractor-trailers to bottom out, and the federal agency is looking into whether the steep grade played a role in the crash Tuesday. The crossing has had at least 17 accidents involving vehicles and trains since 1976.

I smell a class action lawsuit coming. Shame that people have to die over a known issue. My bet is the crossing is removed. Watching ABC World news, the other side leads directly into a neighborhood. So the bus would have crossed, then immediately turned left or right which again is a safety hazard for vehicles behind the bus waiting for it to turn.

I was wrong. The delivery truck/train collision happened in January of this year.
