Well, I just pre-ordered Mass Effect: Andromeda......I'll be doing the same for both my son and wife.

Good lord thats slow. I have 100mg service with no cap, I guess Im spoiled. We download entire games for the PS4 in no time.

Make a boot up USB and recovery image on USB. Takes less than an hour for each.

At least from there you can have a workable Windows to install every thing.

he did that or similar and when it installed it now wants him to verify he owns windows. (anyone can download a windows copy.. Only those with verified keys matching their computer hardware can get it re-installed)

and take an image of your HDD.. It's lazy to not do it, and it doesn't take so long.. And then you have power beyond hardware failure.

I have mine on a USB..

when I first started you have to have a floppy disk with a windows start up on it, and a windows CD in that drive.. HDD had to be third boot in order in BIOS. If I remember correctly.

with just that what was it like 1.44MB disk?? you could format the hardrive and get the computer to start up with no operating system.. And from there you worked your magic.. Sometime it didn't go well and it took days to bring the monster to life..

The good ole days.. (for me) Windows 98.. I must have been around 12 or 13 when I made my first computer.. Even overclocked my Duran processor.. LOL.. it had contacts on the top, and you could even use graphite from a pencil to connect them and turn your 1100 Duran into a 1300 Duran.. IT was Magic..

things were so much harder back then and yet soo much easier if you knew what to do..

I don't even know how windows works anymore these days..

Still forming an opinion. It's a pain in the arse for me, getting used to a new OS. Spent a lot of time disabling all the Cortana stuff. So far, not terribly impressed. Meh
I upgraded from W7 because they are going to stop security updates and I figured I should grab 10 while it was still free.

Win 10 PAH!!

Question: Why does it know when the HDD drive has been switched to an IDENTICAL machine My Tosh died, plugged the HDD from it into the Wife's laptop (same spec, bought the same day at the same store). Windows is not registered!!!Windows on the HDD knew it was in a different chassis. Why does it need to know this?

Question: Why, since installing Win 10 are my F Keys disabled during boot so i cant get into BIOS, why does it need to do this?

I'm looking to upgrade soon to a new puter, only retail option i have is a new system with Win 10 or a new system with Os X. I've also heard that the Intel series 6 (i7 processors) have a back door built in, why ..... lol i shouldn't ask

Am i being paranoid or should i just stop using a computer linked to the Internet and only use one for offline productivity .... i'm really at a loss as to whether to buy a Windows or Apple machine then go for a PS4 for games instead

It seemed like a viable temporary solution to the parasitic windows re-registration problem on the same machine. I also didn't provide links or any other means of rooting out the application in the sea of BS on the internet. Your mistake was trusting that 'free' was FREE.

Your other mistake was letting microsoft dictate things - you let the OS update by itself? Come on.

Also, doing 'very modern' things on a computer is something you have to pay a big price for.. not necessarily financial one. I rather try to avoid it, what do I need modern things for?

After researching what Windows 10 is and does, I don't really see the point in acquiring or installing it. What do you REALLY need it for? Be honest, is there anything you can't do with another version (or Mac) that you can with Windows 10?

The only way I would ever install something like that is to a machine that has no internet connection. But then, what would even be the point. The only reason that could possibly get me to use that particular operating system is the modern flight simulator stuff - it looks pretty darn sweet, compared to the old flight simulators. Just like the only reason to get PS4 for me would be to get 'Densha de Go!' - that also looks incredibly realistic compred to the old ones.

Why be so polar about these things anyway? Just get some 'dedicated system' so you won't lose any of your old stuff, and experiment on that one. If things go to hell, you'll lose nothing, just your time and effort. No law says you can't have different, separate machines with separate operating systems installed - one XP, one Win7, one Mac, etc. Why not?

You don't have to have the same OS on every single system.

Heck, you can even install multiple operating systems on one single machine, and then just select which hard drive to boot from. Simple and easy. If the OS goes to crap, you can always boot to the other OS from the other hardware and continue as before.

You can also make an image of your operating system from when it's working perfectly, so if something happens, you can restore everything in 10 minutes (or a few hours, depending..)
