It NEVER Dies! - Possibility of Ethernal Life?

I have a strange feeling that Immortality would be akin to not sleeping.

You might be able to do it for a while, but eventually you'll either die or go insane.

We die for a reason, I have another feeling that reason isn't to acquire material wealth and venture out into the cosmos, as awesome as that would be, I think the reason is much more simpler than that.

Just look at all the things holding us back, maybe they aren't holding us back, maybe they're there so we don't get lost.

Nature is this perfect system of cause and effect, with multi purposed functionality and meaning, we try to go against nature in so many ways, but what happens when we work with it, we normally achieve things thought never possible.

I think before we can leave this planet and go into the cosmos, we must 1st address our problems we have with each other as a public. That's where we fail miserably and need to focus our efforts of problem solving.

Suppose that contains a modicum of truth.

But keeping all out Eggs in the one basket that is our Earth can only lead to our eventual demise, both sociologically speaking and statistically, should we continue to grow in number as we seem to be doing.

Immortality or the continuation of our race seems to require we ether find or build another planet or multiple places to colonies and exploit.

Hence our interest in extrasolar planets that could support life, why find these places, why look if we are not going to devise a means of eventually getting there?

I disagree.

I think that Nature is already evolving to live for longer and longer period of time.

As an example, cancer cells - cells that live forever, and it's already compatible with most living beings. Cancer is like Nature's clumsy attempts at achieving immortality.

The ability to have children is self limiting. Living forever does not mean staying young forever.

Remember, some people who get older actually get greedier and the corrupt would be able to swindle others for longer. The longer you live the more chance of having an accident kill you.

Another thing, they will probably limit our ability to have a drivers license to seventy five years old, so we will be tied down and not be able to enjoy things. And of course, they will raise the retirement age to six hundred years old since we have a life expectancy of eight hundred.

By sustaining a civilization on another planet, we will tax our planets resources even more. That will cause a depletion of our soils and our food sources. There is no way that we should send people to another planet to live.

Only if its still connected to Earth, depends on our input to survive.

Interstellar travel would somewhat prohibit the notion of empire building in the classical sense just down to the distances involved and the time dilation factors associated with at such distance. Even communication would become somewhat problematic.

So unless wormhole technologies materialize which could get around the problem of relativity i imagine colonization of anything other than our own solar system would be a one shot no return trip.

We are nowhere even close to controlling wormhole technology. It is science fiction. The scientists who talk about this being possible just want our money. The complex calculations to make a connection between two points would need technology we cannot even comprehend because we cannot even measure distance yet with an expanding universe. It doesn't stop these people from creating science fiction to make us believe it is possible though.

If we had this technology and also computers big enough and testing equipment in other parts of the universe, we could possibly someday know how to set this up. That would be thousands of years from now and we would be extinct at the present rate of our disrespect for our biodome we live in. Man can destroy the ability of this earth to support life, I have no doubt about that.

We need to concentrate more on just surviving on this planet symbiotically. The simplest thing is always the most intelligent way. We are just causing stress with the rat race we have created, both mental and medical. What is wrong with just living on a farm and or going to work and living simpler. The direction we are going in makes five percent of the people rich in this world. If you think you are going to be a part of the rich, you are brainwashed, the American dream has collapsed and with the left fighting to keep the money flowing to the top it will never happen.

Probably 1000 years away at least, we dont even know what exotic matter constitutes, where to find it or how to produce it. But it's nice to speculate.

Humanity requires a paradigm shift the likes of which we have never seen.

Lets just say we need to get our act together and rather sharpish if we are to survive the next 1000 years.

We'll never get anything good that we envision from the potential future. Not anytime anywhere near remotely soon anyway.

If we were able to provide the ability to live forever it would not be given to very many people. Definitely not everybody would be able to become naturally immortal.

We would overpopulate simply by existing. Most people lack the self control to not do so. So this could lead to mandatory sterilization. Which starts the ball rolling for a slew of other problems.

Flying cars? Look at our normal car behavior. We can't even take care of that properly. From drunk driving to road rage to the roads themselves in disrepair. Flying cars, even if we had the tech, not going to happen anytime even remotely soon. Same thing for jetpacks.

Teleportation, even if we had the tech, not going to happen. Imagine a person teleports, kidnaps or murders someone then teleports away Teleport into a store, take what you want and pop away. We'd need virtually impossible teleport cops. Same thing for time travel.

Humans aren't responsible enough for the cool stuff. We're selfish children.

Time travel of a sorts is possible(theoretically ) should we ever be able to approach the event horizon of a black hole and sustain position around the singularity.

The technologies through would require us to be at least a type 2 civilization.

Flying cars may turn out to be a whole lot safer than normal ones if we remove the Human element of control, the technology is there, its more the health and safety issue and insurance concerns that would have to be addressed.

As to teleportation, that's a actually a technology that may come to fruition, we are already doing it with entangled particles, taken to its logical conclusion and combined with a form of future 3D printing. It might actually work although the question is raised are we more than the sum of our parts?

Re Jellyfish - That doesn't make any sense. They say it's immortal since it can keep reproducing into various forms. I don't think it's the same cells that keep on living.
