ATS Weekly

Here is a sample of what i think it should look like.

Hello, consider this an open invite to all members of the ATS community and perhaps some of you "guests", who are interested in this on going project for a paper.

By all means PLEASE keep ideas and articles rolling in, the more current and global, the better. Wouldn't it be great to have a truely "International" community news publication. Besides, if I don't have consistant input I'm going to keep :bnghd: my head until it short circuts!

Also, I would like everyone to warmly welcome Nerdling, to the future paper. I think we have a natural here.

I was trying to hold out and not reveil the possible contents of the paper. However, it's been too long and in my opinion it's over due. So, the list below are some of the ideas I came up with. If anyone has suggestions, comments please post it. Keep in mind this is a rough idea of the contents, this is all still in the concept stage. These are the headers/column/section/category title/s, and not the article or story names, these may be where those fall under. Any material that falls into the following, will greatly help. Remember, this is intended to be the ATS communities paper, inspired by ATS which is of course YOU PEOPLE!
Suggestions (at this point), are worth more than GOLD, please invest.

Because I'm new to the site and don't know any better, I'll just jump in.

As a broadcast journalism graduate and a self-professed news junkie, I think the idea of pushing your content out is great.

My suggestion is to build your weekly email magazine in three ways: individual entries, web display and email. For example, during the week as individual elements are reviewed and approved for the magazine, they are posted as a RSS/XML feed for those who want up to the moment data. At the end of the week, the individual entries are published to a web page and emailed out so that those using web scaping tools (like AvantGo) can get it sync-ed with their devices and those wanting the push get it in their email box.

From my personal experience, I've found that I use my RSS news reader more and more and my bookmarks list less and less. I've even canceled a couple of magazine subscriptions since the authors I wanted to read have their own online blogs (I just donate to the author's blog instead of the magazine).

As a plug for my site software of choice, Movable Type (www.movabletype.org) handles the individual entries and the website duties just fine. I think it may even handle the email as well.

Ohoooohhhohooh....we need a funnys page...we all enjoy a laugh every once and a while...we should have member submitted cartoons. Maybe political cartoons or based on an article or sumthing. Or just plain ole cartoons...but it HAS to be included.

So I'm guessing the idea never took off?

Yes, include a stories section too! (I have a thread in BTS General Chat with two true, paranormal stories and about 75 photos....)
