Why do things come in three's?

Why do things come in three's??

This morning my washing machine and kettle both broke. My dad said there is bound to be something else break later as things always happen in three's. Just now my tv switched itself off and won't turn back on again. Its seems to have been an expensive day!

Its always happening, does anyone have any reasoning for it? What so special about the number three?

Or is it simply that when things happen in three's we take more note of it than if it happened in twos or fours?

Ohhh, i can vouch for this. My uncle died Christmas day, my mother fell and broke her fingers and my daughter in law took a drastic fall. I pray this is now over. I dont know why, but i think this is very true.

My electrical appliances don't break down. I watch out for that.

dgtempe, sorry to hear about your bad experiences, a few appliances breaking now seem a little petty or insignificant.

I've had it happen to appliances too. Its so frustrating. I dont blame you for being upset. Hopefuly you can get it all back on track

There are many usage for this...but I am going to talk about this specific usage below.

For Hypnosis Usage:
For example, pretend i had hypnotise somebody to do something in the near future...I programmed that person with trigger word(s)...OK...Now let say that time has come and it is time for the person to do whatever he/she supposed to do...I would repeat the trigger word(s) 3 times to the person...The subconscious mind of that person is aware of that and command the conscious mind to act out the action he/she supposed to do...

Remember Manchurian Candidate movie (the new one!)...when denzel's character recieve a phone call...the caller ask for him in these sequence:
1) is this...'Last name'?
2) is this...'First name', 'Last name'?
3) is this...'First name', 'Middle name', 'Last name'
then denzel's character was trigger into someone else or alter personality...In this case the programmer uses the character's full name.

It is merely a self-fullfilling prophacy. If you think that things happen in three's (even if only on a subconscious level) you will group them in three's and sometimes actually cause the third one to happen even if you don't mean too.

The third time's a CHARM, giving them the third degree, they call a defendant's name three times in court, resurection of Jesus was in three days, Trinity, 3 cock crows, Triangles, alot of examples. Three is signifigant in occultism and religons the world over. Rest assured, its more than an cooincidence.

Since the mind is supposedlly divided in 3 consciousness (Super-Conscious, Sub-Conscious, Conscious)...whatever action needs to be done, all 3 of them would have to conquer or confirm...I supposed!

Three does seem to have a significance in metaphysics but i still agree with jonna. If you have a similar exp 3 times your mind will seem to watch out for more and try to fit the pattern. The best way to solve this is to make a note of everything that breaks down say in a period of gosh maybe 10 years and find which ones break in threes. I bet you it'll just be a matter of probability.

Oh, I am not taking some hard-line stance and saying that there is no unseen significance to the number 3 as it reoccurs in nature time and time again. Perhaps it has something to do with the ‘make-up’ of matter constructs. However, when we build up a superstition we tend to also attribute them to events which may actually be random in nature.

Please dont get me wrong. My intention wasnt to dismiss it as mere coincidence. Rather i think that sometimes our minds are attracted more often that not to these patterns( Patterns do exist for some unknown reason and math itself says that it cannot be a coincidence). We seem to remember these patterns vividly because of the frequency and also because of the mystery involved in those #s.
Still, just because something happens thrice does not make it a mysterious event. Neither is it a proof that its just a coincidence.

So true. In the general sense, self-fulfilling prophecies come to realization more often than not.

i've had a strange experience...one time i got punched in the face, then i fell backwards, and then i hit the ground...i thought it was weird that this happened in 3 steps but i brushed it off....the next morning i awakened from sleep, stood up, and went to the bathroom...now this was really weird that it was 3 things happening to me again.....i brushed it off again but then the 3!!! occurence of 3's happened later the next day (day 3).....i walked to my car, turned the door lock with my key, and then the door opened!!!!! too weird

Exactly. But I think that a big part of the whole three thing has to do with the way the human mind works, we're just programmed to notice that number. Can't remember where I learned that...psychology, I think.

I remember reading an article about a primitive tribe that only had numbers for “one,” “two,” and “many.”

I think if something happens twice it is still viewed as isolated occurrences, and it isn’t noticed so much, fading into the random background noise of life.

If something happens three times, then it is a group; it becomes “many,” and is noticed.

Kind of like if you have two points, they can only form a line—there is no shape or meaning. Once you have three points, now you have a geometric figure, a shape that can mean something.

Or perhaps it comes from having two hands. If you have two of something—no problem--put one in each hand. If you have three of something the quantity suddenly becomes unwieldy and noticeable.

i know how you feel too. this month my grandmother died, then my aunt, and just last week, a good friend of mine also died. other than that i really don't have an explanation for you, i wish i knew as well, that way maybe we could sence it coming you know?.,.....sorry i couldn't be more help

If you write the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, on a piece of paper or bar napkin as in my case, and write the number 3 on the back. ( don’t let anyone see you write the 3, on the back)

Then ask a woman to pick any number 1, 2, 3, 4, she will say 3, then flip the paper over and she will get a chuckle. I would have to say it works at lest 99% of the time. One other thing it only works on woman.

I asked a female psychologist about this one time and she figured they seen 3, as a safe number.

I think it would make a great marketing tool, as in 3 for 1 pizza

they come in fours but you'd never notice or believe the fourth unless you've got e.s.p
