today's politics seem to have it all..
maybe those harp beams have driven us all mad...
maybe the aliens (of the other worldly kind) have found a secret weapon that turns us all into crazies...

I'll post about my experience but not in this thread that has turned into just another mud pit as most of the forums have turned into.

I now call ATS, Planet mud Pit. I don't expect ATS to ever return to it's glory days of "deny ignorance" ...just what the www. needs, another 4chan /pol!!

or another "stormfront" I see that influence gaining a foothold here as well. Sad because nobody seems to care!

I wish I could unsee some posters ideas, have you ever heard never talk about money, religion or politics? We are all so much alike when it comes to our fascination with different conspiracies but when we start to argue about politics things tend to get ugly quickly. I have noticed the same bitter animosity hurled towards Clinton that was thrown at Bush then Obama and now trump. I thought we here at ats were smart enough not to fall for the red/blue (same pill different color) crap that keeps us so divided.

I came to ATS for similar reasons. Of late the politics have bored me, but they seep into every part of the forum.

The problems is ATS (and the themes we cover here) seems to have now become the place where political extremes coem to battle.

The cycle is broken. I've been dropping and lurking, reading and finding rabbit holes for my own paranormal research for years. I'm talking back when Simon was still posting. Back before ATS had "Above Politics" and everyone was doing the "2nd line" stuff (that always confused me and I still see it, must have been a rule or something?)

I might have only created an account fairly recently, but that was because I got tired of seeing so much misinformation and the board I liked to visit and read going off the rails.

A lot of good people are gone from ATS these days. I remember reading a lot more from the moderators. On a hunch, I went to the main "forums" page here and looked at the list. I can't remember the last time I've seen more than 3/4 of the post in the last year or two. Maybe they do, I just don't see it ... but I get the feeling they're likely busy with real-life stuff or something.

I don't think politics is a "fad" on ATS, it's what people want to talk about everywhere. ATS would be better served trying out the "Above Politics" thing again, but totally making it a 100% separate website with a name not even affiliated with ATS in any way. That way the people running everything could still pay the bills, and the conspiracy stuff could stay here, and the politics stuff could go there.

I don't really see that happening though. The site seems to be on autopilot, as nothing is really broken. So there's some members complaining...but they're still clicking and viewing pages, which is keeping the lights on.

It's hard to "be the change you want to see" when every day more and more people are signing up via Twitter or other social media accounts that can be created out of thin air effortlessly. A lot of these people aren't bringing substance to the site, but are likely trolls or people who have been banned by an over-stressed staff.

I'm genuinely afraid for ATS in the upcoming years. Sites like this are gaining attention because of the wild and downright dangerous fake news they're allowing to be pushed. I hope ATS doesn't turn into a 4Chan-like place. There's still quality people here that deserve a decent platform to speak on.

I don't know about that. I think part of the reason you don't see as many out of this world conspiracies around today is partly because most members do have a "deny ignorance" mentality filled with some rightful skepticism when hearing extraordinary things.

Take the Tom Delonge threads around here, many have heard that tune numerous times in the past and are rightly skeptical. Perhaps not in the best way , but he also brought it on himself the way he pitched it.

i think many ats members have been involved in the conspiracy scene long enough to know how it always finishes.

The only issue I see with "deny ignorance" now is when it comes to politics and the people who have sworn their faith to their party. They made their political party a personal attachment and they take it as a personal insult when their TEAM is under attack.

If you don't have any alliance to either party or politician its really not that bad, its actually quite comical to observe the hypocrisy . Then you cry when you realize these are the people that have ruined this country .

Flood the feed with what you are interested in. As long as you aren't flag fishing, there are still a good many that will read and comment. How do you think those "good posters" got good?
Shoot, I might help flood it. I like the political debate but I enjoy the conspiracy/ ancient civilization/science as well.

There are other forums, the ribbon at the top of your screen: See where it says forums? Click that. It'll take you to a page that lists all the forum available on ATS--not all of which discuss Trump, Clinton, etc... There is a forum about UFO's. A forum about things that go bump in the night. There's a section of ATS, called BTS, where you can discuss, even share to an extent, your fave music or websites, or just jabber about things in general.

Start a thread or two about what interests you. You've enough posts to do so now. You really have no excuse.

I am new to ATS and even in less than half an hour I noticed what you are talking about. It's Trump Derangement Syndrome. After a cringeworthy demand that Trump actually sign a paper saying he would "honor the results of the election" when Hillary thought she was going to win, the other side has NOT honored the results of the election, not once, ever since the election. I never saw so many people frothing at the mouth over Trump while at the same time not a single one of them could give a coherent answer to the question "what exactly do you object to about him"? One woman simply had a noisemaker to make fart noises and that's what she did, loudly and continuously, in response to all attempts to engage her in normal conversation. And that was about the level of discourse throughout. I guess they feel no need to give an actual reason, which mystified me until I realized that communism/fascism rarely encourage individual thought, they simply demand adherence to their dictates. So these must be the folks who go for that.
