That got it and it was the easy way, thanks, it`s all done.
I put the distributor in and turned the crank shaft with a breaker bar until the rotor lined up perfectly in line with the arrow on the distributor
housing, that got the oil pump shaft lined up right. then I took the distributor out and turned the crank until the timing marks lined up, then I put
the distributor back in and everything fell right in place, the arrow and rotor lined up and the distributor went right onto the oil pump shaft with
the rotor and arrow still inline.
it started right up the first try, and after I reconnected 2 vacuum lines, that I missed when I hooked everything else up, it ran smooth.
when I get the new distributor I now know how to put it in easily.
you have to get the rotor and the arrow lined up really precisely for it to run, if it`s off by just a little bit the car says: "F.U. I ain`t going
anywhere, try again fool"
I even managed to fix the coolant leak which Is why I took it all apart, I wasn`t sure if it was the head gasket or in the intake gasket.I know this
engine has a problem with leaking lower intake gaskets so I took a chance and just replaced that and no more leak.
after I get the new distributor in I can give this POS back to my daughter and move, and not leave a forwarding address or phone number so she can`t
come running to dad the next time something breaks
