The Mayor of Miami-Dade, Florida has reportedly ordered county jails to comply with President Donald Trump‘s orders regarding illegal immigrants.
The move will effectively end the county’s “sanctuary city” policy—keeping millions in federal aid pouring in.
The Miami Herald broke the news: [Mayor Carlos A.] Gimenez cited an executive order signed Wednesday by President Donald Trump that threatened to cut federal grants for any counties or cities that don’t cooperate fully with Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Since 2013, Miami-Dade has refused to indefinitely detain inmates who are in the country illegally and wanted by ICE — not based on principle, but because the federal government doesn’t fully reimburse the county for the expense.
President Trump, on Twitter, praised the Mayor’s decision
Miami-Dade County shouldn’t be considered a “sanctuary city” because it cooperates with federal law enforcement when detaining immigrants, officials said Wednesday.
Michael Hernandez, a spokesman of Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez, said they don’t know yet whether the county will be deprived of federal funds under a new order signed Wednesday by President Donald Trump that seeks to crack down on illegal immigration.
Last year, a Department of Justice report listed Miami-Dade as one of the communities that refused to comply with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Why they gotta say immigrants when they should be saying undocumented aliens/criminals?

Excellent first little step.
Long, long way to go...
The Department of Justice's Inspector General recently found that some of the sanctuary jurisdictions appear to be violating federal law, and may face debarment from certain federal funding or other consequences.
The sanctuary jurisdictions are listed below. These cities, counties, and states have laws, ordinances, regulations, resolutions, policies, or other practices that obstruct immigration enforcement and shield criminals from ICE — either by refusing to or prohibiting agencies from complying with ICE detainers, imposing unreasonable conditions on detainer acceptance, denying ICE access to interview incarcerated aliens, or otherwise impeding communication or information exchanges between their personnel and federal immigration officers.
