Mastiffs and Molossers were the original "dogs of war" and a great many of them now have retained much of the xenophobia of the original type. When the breeds splintered off many of them now are used as flock guardian dogs.

The Blue nose is very smart, but the Stafford actually speaks. Im not kidding either. Every day when I come home from a 12 hour shift, he is waiting by the door to greet me, and he says very clearly HELLO!. Seriously. Once and only once I was in bed, and he was on the bed near my feet. He called out to me in a question form and said " Dad?" It totally freaked me out. It was very clear. I went online to check this out and there are lots of dogs that talk, and some cats too. It really seemed like he knew what he was saying. He never said it since
