Maybe coincidence but seems fishy.

Agreed. I"m not sure what your point is, though.

The substation damage only impacted two casinos. Are you saying that substation is dedicated to those two casinos?

No, I'm saying the substation can be large and the casinos will require more power than other buildings. The debris will be more likely to hit a larger target than a smaller one in the substation.

OR Politics?

OK, offer me a theory on how taking down a couple of casinos benefits anyone politically.
Cui Bono?

Sure... bigger target, easier to hit.

I found the answer that I was looking for regarding the substation:

MGM said it plans to start buying electricity from another source by Oct. 1, but will keep paying to use NV Energy's infrastructure to transmit and distribute the power.

Source

So, the only two casinos impacted by this debris-caused outage at NV-owned infrastructure are the two that fought to exit the NV power monopoly a couple years ago.

I'm not saying it wasn't wind... but it's certainly an interesting coincidence.

Nearby Area 51 is probably testing reverse-engineered alien technology again.

It could be Danny Ocean and his team using a pinch.

Actually slot machines have their own internal "storage" of all events.

When a power failure happens, the machine holds and recovers.

When power comes back on, the machine displays what was there before the power failure.

I actually saw this happen twice.

Those things are very high tech.

I remember being at McCarron a few years ago when the power went out. Even the runway lights went out....the slots never even flickered. I made a comment to the girl at the ticket counter that they must have them hard wired to the damn.

"what if"

Well.. that would suck

I've actually been playing slots a couple times where the power went out and the machine's backup failed and credits go to zero (half the machines in the place were on and half were down). Had to wait about a half hour for the attendants to get to everyone to retrieve the credit balance on the ones that went down. I stopped playing there during big weather events

What could actually happen is that you see the magic progressive winning spin come up on your screen and the power goes out right before it registers as a win... that would REALLY suck.

Maybe the techs that went to the substation to restore power had a memo to leave a couple circuits open 'so there won't be such a big power surge damaging coffee-makers all up and down the strip'?

It sounds weird that a renewable energy source would tie-in into the grid there at the substation...?
Are these casinos now receiving their renewable energy source?

If true, those casinos are headed for serious Barney!

is there a hack for these fruit machines?
I have the key that tells you the payouts etc but that’s all And i once fell for the scam where i bought a key fob like a car remote for the doors and it was supposed to interfere with the machines frequency and drop free credits, win streaks etc,etc but none of it worked though it did make the reels move once, just a little jolt to the reels that was all no win or anything and maybe just a coincidence.
would love to have a gadget like that!

I do know a few soft drink/chocolate bar vending machine tricks/hacks that still work on some of the older machines.
