im looking for information from anyone who knows anything about the underground network of tunnels that run under portland dorset they supposedly link up the old naval base sites and the old dra its a vast network and contains workshops a hospitel and submarine pen i know it exists because when i was younger my brother and i and a few friends gained access to it through what we thought was an electricity station in a corner of the kids park on the naval estate there were steps leading down to three corridors branching off in different directions! we got access to three rooms and being kids were satisified with the hexi burners and ration packs we found when the mod realised that we had been in there they rounded up all the kids thay could find from the naval estate(luckily me and my brother wernt among them) and there were serious repercussions from what i can gather can anyone help

Please visit the link provided for the complete story.

this is my own account and absolutely true the navy have now left portland and nearly all entrances have been lost but it would be so much fun to try abd gain access and find out exactly what they have been covering up for so long

Are you talking about Portland Oregon? You can take tours of the undergound tunnels.

www.portlandwalkingtours.com...

I am not sure if you are talking about the same thing or not though.

i live locally to portland and have visited it alot looking for access to tunnels and entrances the main entrance to the first underground base is through the port entrance on the right hand side it is to near a guard room to access but think there are pics of the entrances on subterrainian britain most of the island is covered in tunnels when making a delivery to a customers house i noticed a archway at the bottom of his garden and enquired about it he tol me the were built during ww2 as they overlook the harbour and he offered to show me around the tunnels link all over the island but are bricked up every 200 or so yards so u cant go all the way round but looking through the battery slats you can overlook the harbour there is another base which is fenced of and can gain no real access to the building inside for a closer look this site is located behind a stone quarry u can walk the perimeter but cant get inside on asking a few locals i know who have lived there for years they said it was built as a regional seat of goverment for local councilers politicians and military personnel the fenced area is at least 300yrds in length then the fence squares off for another 300yrds or so i there is a guard room at the main entrance but the buildings are all boarded up so shouldnt be too hard to explore although did get strange looks off a few people when i was looking at it and also be aware of the prison next door heavy camera survalence all over the prison overlooking the site there also stands a very large com array inside complex looks well maintained. there is also a survalence post overlooking weymouth harbour on the ridgeway road just past the farm house ontop of ridgeway there is a track on the right which leads to a brick building with a elevater that goes down a few levels to a complex presumably a listening post as there is a com array there too also regulare military visits u will have to go up the came down road to see this site as building of the upwey bypass have closed the main rd to this site and u have to go up the farm track on right to see the building hope this helps

Hi
I was born, brought up and worked for the MoD on Portland for most of my life. The Bunker referred to at the Naval Estate was a cold war bunker for local government during times of crisis. It was sold to a private individual in the past couiple of years.
I worked at the old AUWE/ARE/DRA/DERA site at Southwell and Portland Naval Base. There's no tunnels connecting Southwell to anywhere (to my knowledge). There are tunnels at the old Naval Base, but sorry no submarine pens

There are also tunnels in the quarries and Verne Prison (previously Verne Citadel).
The bit you missed was at the Grove. A US early warning base deep underground. Try googling "ROTOR".......

Hey there mate. The area that is fenced off near the quarry also next to the prison is known as new ground. You can walk around this place with little bother.Me and a friend have been here a few times mainly because we have been searching for ways to get past the huge metal door in the main building to the left of the guard room at the main gates.Behind the metal door is a shaft of maybe 70ft or so where there was once an elevator/staircase (now repalced with a dodgey narrow metal ladder,so ive been told) which leads to the underground tunnel system.U should google ROTOR like someone else said. There are a few pictures available to see
