Over all violent crime is up over 5%, aggravated assaults up 6.5%. This is bad news, just another legacy issue I suppose Trump will have to deal with.

According to the report, violent crime in the U.S. showed an overall increase of 5.3 percent. Each of the offenses in the violent crime category—murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, rape, aggravated assault, and robbery—experienced increases: aggravated assaults were up 6.5 percent; murders increased 5.2 percent; rapes (legacy definition) were up 4.4 percent and rapes (revised definition) increased 3.5 percent; and robberies were up 3.2 percent.

Property Crime is down a fraction of a % and burglaries were down 3.4%, and that is good but motor vehicle thefts were up 6.6%.

And while property crime as a whole was down 0.6 percent (burglaries decreased 3.4 percent and larceny-thefts were down 0.8 percent), motor vehicle thefts increased by 6.6 percent.

Well I guess thats one less argument in the gun lovers arsenal.

Is this the first year these stats went up? from what Ive been hearing on here crime stats have been declining since the 70's.

If this is in fact the first time the stats have increased from one year to the next in decades what do you think the major contributing factors were?

The number of people who are people who have given up looking for work is at a record.

Race relations are at a very low point.

The election had riots because HRC wasn't elected and Hillary refused to address the violence in a speech.

THAT!

That's the one thing She, Obama, and Bernie should never be allowed to live down.

I'd love to know where in the US these increases really come from. I bet they are from cities run by democrats who have stricter gun laws.

Id bet chicago and detroit alone could be responsible for the increase

Okay, I'll jump into the fray.
I think the FBI statistics are up because of financial incentives to local PDs.
Get your reports in (on time) boys, and we'll make sure you get those federal funds...

OR - maybe it's the whole election-campaign + Ferguson-events/BLM situation

In any event, if the statistics were available by voting precinct, I'd be willing to bet the increases are primarily in the "blue" ones.
