I am working on a HiRISE Mars image of a dune field and I want to print it to canvas.

Nothing has been painted onto the image. The color, levels, hue, brightness, etc have all been altered. This picture in no way represents the true color of Mars (whatever that is).

Here is the whole image.

The image does show true details of Mars though.

Here are some crops from the large image.

If there is anyone that has any good advice about having images printed to canvas, please share

How big should the image be to get it to print nice? What resolution?

Any tips on how to get an idea of what it will look like once printed?

Heres a few more crops.

Nice work, I like the shimmering textures you brought to live there!

You'd need a CMYK file with embedded profile to keep your colour-settings and roughly 25MB per square meter, my oldschool rule of thumb. 120 DPI PDF Fullscale and you might overshoot a tad, but the file should be small enough to handle if reduced to one layer and all that. Most printers have the usual software in house to write their own PDFs with your original PSD file, just ask them in case of doubt.

And don't worry about the canvas, you wont see the canvas structure after taking two steps away from the picture. But with all that red the colours bleach out fast. UV systems kinda suck with regards to longevity, thus you'd be better off with solvent print.

As big as I can get them printed and still look good. They are going in my office, 2 on one wall and the other on a different wall, I think, not real sure yet. Maybe all 3 on one wall.
