Odd? No. Not surprising? YES. Especially after making posts like this: www.abovetopsecret.com...

The undertones of Death Metal is so dark and Satanic

At least get your genres correct. You posted black metal bands, not death metal bands.

The greatest trick Satan ever pulled was convincing the world he doesn't exist.

God must be in on the joke...

Please don't include Rob Zombie as a metal band.

That's an insult to metal.

If any genre of music could be considered evil, I'd have to go with modern Country. Those same songs over and over and over again. The same beats, the same lyrics. The same freakin' TWANGS!

Disagree?
Here's a 6(coincidence?
) Country song mashup. All hits.

*shudders* Who. Who DOES that?! Horrors of pure evil.

"Satan" is a fictional character.

"Death Metal" is a real form of music.

Only an idiot thinks "Satan" is an actual person. In the Bible it is NOT a proper name. It is a word, just like "bastard" or "telephone".

Claiming that Death Metal is "Satanic" is the same as saying it is an adversary, as that is the true meaning of the word.

Again, it was not and IS not a proper name, and the usage in the Bible does NOT refer to any "Dark Lord" with horns, a pitchfork, and hooves. That description of some kind of demon is a relatively recent invention, and "Satan" was a character in a work of fiction by John Milton, which was not published until the mid-1600s.

Being afraid of Satan is the same as being afraid of Mickey Mouse. One is as real as the others, with the same powers (none).

All of the bands in OP are black metal, not death metal. Many black metal bands are tongue-in-cheek "satanic", but very few take it serious. Death metal, for the most part, focuses on gore but both genres are vast and cover countless themes. No genre is a bout a specific subject. It's entertainment. I listen to hardly anything but death and black metal, I'm not a satanist, and I don't kill people. Just like I can be entertained by violence on television without wanting to commit violence.

Source: I'm in a black metal band.

Well, it's been nice to see such a decent mix of DM, but I think some key elements have been missed:

Entombed - Swedish legends/the 1st version of Dismember

Napalm Death - this era death/grind

Autopsy

Pungent Stench (I wanted Piggy Bank, but can't find) - also, arguably one of the first bands to do the deathNroll thing

Morbid Angel

and something more recent - and this one's especially for OP:
Cattle Decapitation

Phil Anselmo doesn't really do death metal and yes...he's a moron which is a shame because he's probably the best live front man of all time.

You haven't heard his new band, Scour? I share a drummer with them. Also has members from Cattle Decapitation and Pig Destroyer.

Vocalist is actually a priest of the church of Satan, appointed by LaVey himself.

Some might say that "satanic" mouse has ALOT of power!

Still just guys that have to put on paint to look like this, and tune the guitar again, bathroom breaks are the worst, you cant get a proper wipe with all that leather and grease paint.

Sad really, and its not really that big anymore. The beats, not the messages have already been stolen and infused into pop punk music.

You have more to worry about from the multitude of TV shows that lean heavily on spiritualism and glorification of the paranormal, than you do black metal. The audience it far wider and packaged in a much easier to swallow form.

This reminds me of an 80s movie called The Gate I watched when I was really young. I vaguely remember that they unlocked the gate to hell by playing a certain guitar riff. I'm sure the movie would be a disaster now if I watched it again. haha
