Windows 7 or Microsoft Windows 7 ?

Windows 7 Home Edition.

When I start the computer an option to start either Windows 7 or Microsoft Windows 7.

Which one should I use to avoid any win 10 issues.

Done a search of these KBs not found any bad KB updates.

Sounds like you have 2 different installs and one of them 'chose' to enter is as the one title, and the other the other. Which one actually works, and has your usual setup (preferably) should be the way to go.?

Or the boot loader is buggy. Honestly, upgrading to Windows ten isn't stable.
The good news is, you're likely to quit trying before it works, I've seen very free upgrades break the existing setup.
I've also seen very free actually work.

Back up the stuff you care about. Documents, book marks, etc. Never hurts to have a backup.

Yeah, probably not what you said. You wouldnt have parallel installs from an upgrade. You could install paralell installs of windows 7 on accident maybe by changing boot loader setting on uefi bios perhaps. But truthfully, i think what most likely happened here is there are two boot options for the same install, and one was created by an optimizer program or something to specify some boot options. Bcdedit is probably the right track. If you edit and see both point to c:windows you have the answer of whether its paralell installs or two diff sets of boot options. If you want to know which one is the factory options, check google search.

i think they are most likely for the same install also, but I'm guessing what happened is at some point Windows7 was either reinstalled over the top of the original copy Windows7 in order too try fix or repair stuff and/or was interrupted before it was completed.

I have a boot modification tool so I will check that out as I agree that its most likely this program (not knowing what I'm doing) I have made some settings with.

Always do a fresh format(full) if your installing a new OS.

And if you are installing Windows 10 make sure it's the Full or Retail versions.

Never do OEM.

A clean hard drive is a happy os.

You probably already solved the problem, but for anyone else who finds this thread in the future use msconfig over bcdedit. Msconfig is GUI-centric and probably easier for people who might be scared of the command prompt.

Once loaded click on the tab labeled "Boot". Next delete the extra unnecessary boot configuration.

Thank you for that and no I've not solved it yet but I'm geetting close as it seems its cable connection causing the problem.
